Does ABC show these live across all timezones or do they delay it to local time in each time zone?

You can watch the fireworks live on ABC News channel or at the above local times. So in Brisbane midnight fireworks are on ABC News at 11pm (in SD) and on ABC TV at midnight.

Thursday 26 January 7.30pm

Australia Day Live at the Sydney Opera House and spanning Circular Quay showcases our nation’s best musical stars with tributes to our country, combined with a fireworks and maritime show.

As the sun sets on our national day, Australia Day Live from the Sydney Opera House forecourt and spanning Circular Quay is just getting started with an inspiring and uplifting finale to the day featuring powerful storytelling, moving tributes and sensational entertainment on both land and water.

Australia Day Live showcases musical performances from our nation’s best talent complemented by a dazzling watercraft extravaganza of yachts, jet skis, fly boarders, and parachutists dropping in to join the fun. All this along with Sydney’s iconic landmarks and harbour create an incredible backdrop for a brilliant fireworks and light show.

The two-hour spectacular is produced by the NSW Government and Australia Day Council of NSW with creative direction led by music maestro and Creative Director John Foreman OAM together with Creative Consultant, the multi-instrumentalist, composer and vocalist William Barton.

Australia Day Live will be hosted by John Foreman, Casey Donovan and Jeremy Fernandez. Further information about the talent line-up will be available in January 2023.

Since it began in 2016, Australia Day Live at Sydney Opera House has proven much more than a concert; it reflects a nation coming together to reflect, respect and celebrate the Australian spirit and the best of this vast nation; our mateship, our sense of community, and our resilience.

Bradman and Tendulkar

Monday 23 January 8.30pm

Bradman and Tendulkar – two of cricket’s greatest players from different corners of the world, are the subject of a new television documentary which compares their early lives, stellar careers and dreams.

In May 2022, ABC reporters Ben Knight and Paul Kennedy began work on a television documentary project comparing the lives and careers of two of Cricket’s greatest players – Don Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar.

On the face of it, their backgrounds could not have been more different. Bradman grew up in 1920s rural Australia, Tendulkar in the crowded chaos of Bombay.
Yet the more Ben and Paul looked into their lives, the more they found. Both cricketers were the youngest in large families, growing up in loving and supportive environments where art was as much encouraged as sport.

As batters, their styles were not particularly similar. Yet Bradman clearly saw something he recognised – perhaps more than he said at the time.
Their aggression, their hunger for runs, their mental ability to maintain focus for hours on end, their deep love of the game for its own sake… everywhere you look, the connections are there.

They famously met only once: on Bradman’s 90th birthday. The photograph of that meeting was front page news in Australia and India. For the first time, we find out what happened in the room that inspiring day

Four Corners, Media Watch, Q+A

Start the week well-informed, with all the very latest in news and current affairs on the ABC.

At 8:30pm, the multi-award winning Four Corners returns for another year of powerhouse investigative journalism - fearless and forensic, holding power to account throughout six decades – and counting.

Australia’s longest running current affairs program has been exposing scandals, triggering inquiries, firing debate and confronting taboos for and behalf of the Australian public since 1961 and looks set to remain as defiant as ever in 2023.

Monday nights continue with Paul Barry hosting a new season of Media Watch - Australia’s leading forum for media analysis and critique. Since 1989 the program has been exposing conflicts of interest, journalistic deceit, misrepresentation, manipulation and plagiarism.

Media Watch turns the spotlight onto those who ‘make the news’: the reporters, the online editors, producers, camera operators and photographers. We also keep an eye on those who try to manipulate the media: the PR consultants, media agencies, spin-doctors, lobbyists and social influencers.

And rounding out the evening, Q+A returns to Monday nights. Stan Grant hosts the weekly topical lively debates with a panel of punters, pollies and pundits to talk through the big issues of the past seven days and set the agenda for the week to come.

Gardening Australia - Season 34

image

From Friday 10 February 7.30pm

Costa learns about plant adaptions to climate; Sophie visits a designer’s home; Millie gets stuck into summer jobs; Clarence and Hannah get a garden history lesson; Tammy grows potted dragon fruit; we meet an orchid hybridiser.

We’re back for our 34th year, with a super special first episode that sees the whole team together in the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. We are looking forward to another great year of beautiful gardens, inspiring plant-lovers, and practical information.

In 2023, Gardening Australia welcomes Tammy Huynh to the team! Based in Western Sydney, Tammy joined us as a guest presenter in 2022 and we are also delighted to officially welcome Tasmanian presenter, Hannah Moloney. Hannah has appeared on Gardening Australia since her guest presenter series in 2019.
Costa tours the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne to learn how the team of horticulturalists are adapting the plant collections to ensure they will withstand a changing climate.

Sophie visits the home garden of a renowned landscape designer which showcases many different styles of garden design seamlessly within the stunning space.

Millie gets stuck into some summer jobs—pruning, pest-proofing, and of course, planting - to prepare her garden for the cooler times ahead.

Clarence and Hannah meet up with a First Nations Educator at Melbourne’s Botanic Gardens to learn about the intersection of the cultural and ecological history of the landscape.

Tammy shows how easy it is to propagate dragon fruit plants in pots, so that anyone can grow these sweet treats in a garden of any size.

We meet Kevin Butler, a pharmacist who has become an internationally recognised cultivator of Cymbidium orchids focusing on colour, patterns, and beauty.

Jerry profiles a stunning tropical plant that can be grown anywhere in Australia; Hannah covers the perfect thickness for mulch; Josh explains why some eucalypts have multiple stems.

Production credit: Executive Producer, Gill Lomas.

According to Sydney Opera House website, Dami Im, Christine Anu and Isaiah Firebrace will also perform.

Tickets to the event are free but in limited numbers. They will be available from SOH website tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10am AEDT.

UPDATE 15/1: the concert will be hosted by John Foreman, Casey Donovan, Jeremy Fernandez and Sirine Demachkie, according to the Australia Day Guide inside today’s Sunday Telegraph. Key performers will include Donovan, Christine Anu and her daughter Zipporah, Dami Im, William Barton, Isaiah Firebrace, Anthony Callea, Tim Campbell, James Morrison, Emma Pask, Darren Percival, Mirusia, Emma Kavanagh, wheelchair aerialist Paul Nunnari, and more.
