Sounds just like a fact. SBS has advertising and that is taken into account when securing partners /advertisers to help fund programming, ABC does not.
Doubt it was any subtle dig towards Narelda or the fact she’s from 10, I’m sure she was chosen cause she’s a fairly well known great broadcaster who is also a person of colour in the queer community - not her regular network.

ABC tops up audience stockings with some joyous programs
As 2021 comes to an end, the ABC is reaching into Santa’s sack to deliver the best festive stories for the whole family to enjoy.
On ABC Kids, the little ones will be able to enjoy a Christmas episode, from all their favourite shows every evening at 5:55pm, starting with the premiere of The Adventures of Paddington: The Lost Letter on Wednesday 1 December. Then on Monday 13 December we premiere a special Peppa Pig “Aussie Christmas” episode, and on Saturday 4 December don’t miss the premiere of the beautifully illustrated Quentin Blake’s Clown narrated by Helena Bonham Carter.
We have a huge stack of holiday movies on ABC ME including; Shaun the Sheep: Farmageddon , Saving Santa , Elliot the Littlest Reindeer , Spirit Riding Free: Spirit of Christmas as well as much loved favourites Midnight Gang , Dr. Suess’ The Grinch Musical and the Wallace and Gromit films. On Christmas Eve on ABC TV, then encoring on ABC ME, is the premiere special Shaun the Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas .
For the (very) big kids, we kick off with Would I Lie To You? At Christmas on Thursday 9 December at 9pm on ABC TV Plus. Shaun’s mission becomes critical when a gift box containing Timmy is given to Farmer Ben’s feisty daughter, Ella.
A high-speed snow chase ensues as the Ben family head home in their 4x4, oblivious to the sleigh full of sheep that’s following them, which itself is being pursued by Bitzer on make-shift skis.A quick-thinking Timmy manages to convince Ella that he’s just a toy, but he can’t escape the clutches of the cute tearaway. Australian production FIRESTARTER – The Story of Bangarra won in the Arts category, tells the story of how three young Aboriginal brothers — Stephen, David and Russell Page — turned a newly born dance group into a First Nations cultural powerhouse. Crossing the globe, I’m Not A Monster , a joint venture between the UK’s BBC Panorama and US’s FRONTLINE PBS, took home the Audio Entertainment award – for one journalist’s work over four years, telling the story of an American family who ended up in the heart of the ISIS caliphate.
ABC documentary Firestarter: The Story of Bangarra wins Rose d’Or Award
ABC TV arts documentary Firestarter: The Story of Bangarra has won a prestigious international prize for its portrayal of Australia’s leading First Nations dance company.
Firestarter, which is available to watch on ABC iview, was named best arts program at the Rose d’Or Awards, which honour excellence and achievement in international television and audio programs.
The stirring documentary, produced by In Films and directed by Nel Minchin and Wayne Blair and distributed internationally by ABC Commercial and theatrically by Icon Film Distribution, tells the story of how three young Aboriginal brothers – Stephen, David and Russell Page – turned a new dance group into a First Nations cultural powerhouse. The program also won the 2020 AACTA Award for Best Documentary.
Jennifer Collins, ABC Head of Factual & Culture, said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in Firestarter at In Films and the ABC, particularly ABC Commissioning Editor Kalita Corrigan, and our funding partners, for such an important story about First Nations culture and creativity.

A three-part sci-fi series, The War of the Worlds is a new adaptation of HG Wells’s classic space odyssey of the same name.
England 1905. When a mysterious capsule lands on Earth at Horsell Common, George (Rafe Spall) and Amy (Eleanor Tomlinson) are among the first to examine it. However, this is no inanimate object but a transport for a living organism from outer space. As more people gather to study it, its movements kills scores of people. Martians have arrived.
And so begins a terrifying ordeal as more capsules land in Britain and release murderous Martian tripods, which stalk England exterminating and consuming everything in their wake.
Episode One – Friday 7th January at 9pm on ABC TV and ABC iview
- George and Amy are new to Woking and short of friends except for Ogilvy, a scientist and fellow outcast. When a mysterious capsule lands on Horsell Common the trio are the first to examine it. But a terrifying menace lurking in the capsule is unleashed.
Amy and George survive the slaughter, but as they prepare to flee to George’s brother Frederick in London, the Martian invader takes its full form and unleashes further destruction. Amy and George become separated in the chaos and are faced with a fight not just to find each other but for their very survival.
I think this version of The War of the Worlds has aired on pay TV before.
That’s already been broadcast by ABC, final was on Saturday.

The Larkins are preparing for Christmas, but there’s been burglaries in the village. Pop and Ma are overjoyed to have Mariette and Charley back for Christmas, but when Charley’s parents arrive chaos descends on the farm.
It’s Christmas and the decorations are going up, but the Larkin family are sad at not having Mariette at home for Christmas. Until Mariette and Charley suddenly return, back for good from France.
There has been a spate of burglaries in the village and determined to get to the bottom of things, Pop enlists lifelong underachiever PC Harness. Miss Pilchester is struggling to direct the village’s nativity-panto combo, not helped by a disastrous power cut. Will the villagers get their precious stolen knickknacks back? Will the power be back in time for Christmas, and the pantivity go ahead? And can Charley’s strict parents be won over by the Larkins?
As usual the Larkins rally and entertain the whole village with food, booze and warmth and allow the play to go ahead in their barn. To top it all snow is on the horizon… Will it be a Merry Christmas in Larkins Land?
