The iview streams were all upgraded to 720p a couple of months ago, if you want to class 720p as HD these days anyway.

I would love to see if this is the case for them to revert back to the MPEG-2 HD format. (720p) I would think people still have a “HD TV” from over 10 years ago wouldn’t mind having the News channel back on there Channel Listings.

(This just doesn’t apply to me, hee hee. :flushed: , but it does.)

I wouldn’t be surprised if all the multis are just online only in the near future since in the near future imo all channels will be a hybrid of online and tv just for the older generation

That’s very unlikely to happen. The commercial nets rely on advertising for revenue. ABC does not.

Until viewing levels online match terrestrial, and until advertisers pay the same rate per viewer - multis won’t go online at all

Advertisers pay but a fraction of the $ for online viewing as FTA. That’s a trend networks around the world have been unable to change.

At this point I think we’d probably be more likely to see all channels (whether in HD or SD) eventually switch to MPEG4.

MPEG2 HD (and even SD) will likely go the way of analogue sometime over the next decade IMO.

The Romantics and Us

image

From Wednesday 14 April at 9:00 pm

Popular revolt. Our obsession with the self. Modern nationalism. These very contemporary ideas were actually the creation of the Romantics, a generation of writers and artists living and working over 200 years ago. In this series, Simon Schama reveals how these ideas, forged during a century long revolution in art and culture, still impact our lives today. In The Passions of the People Simon explores the elixir of rebellion and the idea that imaginative passion can conquer mechanical logic. He examines works by Delacroix, William Blake, Mary Wollstonecraft, Shelley and Gericault.

In The Chambers of the Mind, Simon reveals how the Romantics became the first explorers of the unconscious, long before Freud,Jung and the modern psychological revolution. He examines the writings of Victor Hugo, the prints of Piranesi and the works of Coleridge, Wordsworth and Thomas de Quincey. Finally in Tribes, Simon shows how the Romantics created the secular cult of national belonging in their poetry, music and art, with enormous consequences for the world. From the music of Chopin to the poetry of Robert Burns, Simon looks at the rediscovery by the Romantics of tradition, folktales and myths.

Instagram Utopia

Sunday May 23 8:00pm

Join Compass host Kumi Taguchi, for the final time, as she delves into society’s obsession with influencers. Spending time in Byron Bay with six influencers from different backgrounds, Kumi seeks to understand why we want to know so much about the lives of strangers. Is there such a thing as an ethical influencer? And does the Byron Bay Influencer Bubble really exist?

Self-styled parenting gurus Jayde Couldwell and Sophie Pearce represent the epitome of their category of influencer. They curate their motherhood journeys via their Instagram accounts, including their beautifully turned-out partners and children.

Sarah Royall represents another category: the adventurer, offering tantalising glimpses of experiences in exotic destinations and how to protect them. Edgier influencers, like Bundjalung woman and queer activist Ella Noah Bancroft and radical astrologer Angel Phoenix unpack their relationships with online communities and discover how Instagram can amplify the voices of the underrepresented.

Through the stories of these six women, we explore how they shape their own identities and the authenticity of their stories.
