ABC Sports Broadcasting

He is. He is hosting Grandstand from 3pm to 6.30pm AEDT today, from ABC Southbank Studios in Melbourne for the first time.

Brett Sprigg has moved to Sydney with Grandstand. Ben Cameron has replaced him and is now full time with the ABC in Perth.

That’s why i don’t see him listed for SEN for the Perth match this week.

Interesting move, if true. Probably the perfect fit for the ABC, since they don’t judge their performance on ratings.

News Corp are reporting that the ABC would show the Fox Sports coverage, but presumably it would be a feed without advertising pop-ups and Fox Sports and Foxtel cross promotions.

Well, that would be nice.

ABC had the W-League a one stage, didn’t they? The A-League will be a nice addition to the ABC too.

Similar to Asian Cup 2015 when ABC showed the Fox Sports coverage.
Interesting move but it could clash with ABC’s coverage of women’s golf (Victorian Open and Australian Open) in February.

IIRC, they produced W-League telecasts for the first few seasons then aired Fox’s broadcasts for a season or two

If the A league games start at 5:15pm on the main channel then they would have to shift ABC News to a 7:15pm start

Why?

Could perhaps use ABC News channel for any overlap?

because the game would not be finished before 7PM especially so if there is a long injury time

Regulation time would finish right on 7pm - if there’s extra time, I don’t see why a shortened bulletin couldn’t be aired in the AEST/AEDT states

they could do that but you would think all the sport haters would get upset that the national broadcaster is shortening their news service for sport

Plus the commenters on news Corp sites saying this is a waste of tax payers money given fox already air it.

So many people of the extreme right have no idea how any of this works and they blatantly turn into some ideological argument.

The Australian is reporting that it is expected to be announced that the ABC will broadcast an A-League game at 5:00pm on Saturdays and a W-League game at 4:00pm on Sundays. The ABC could also possibly get the free-to-air rights to Socceroos and Matildas matches.

It’s great news that the ABC is set to regain W-League rights. Getting FTA rights to Socceroos and Matildas matches will be a bonus. But what about Socceroos’ World Cup qualifying matches?
Also, if the ABC is to show the A-League, the kick off has to be right at 5pm to allow for long injury time in the second half and for the ABC to show the 7pm news in NSW, VIC, ACT and TAS.

that would be the 3rd FTA broadcaster in… 4 years? for A-League
