ABC Sports Broadcasting

I’m still baffled why Seven didn’t try airing the VFL on Sundays afternoons again before dropping it if that didn’t work.

After all, it was their push to have Saturday night VFL games which made it ‘commercially unviable’.

Media reports have suggested the telecast match of the round will be in the traditional timeslot of Saturday 2pm.

I have a feeling that depending on the round they will swap between 1pm & 2pm matches to have a close consistency and people will know when to tune in.

I think the Tassie match in R1 would be a game that afl fans would be interested in and could be a good game to broadcast with big crowd expected etc - though not sure if it’s the best game on the Saturday.

Bulldogs unveil their 2025 flag for the 2pm match so that’s probably the ABC match for R1

So ABC get 1 game will the other games be on the AFL/VFL App why not Kayo Sports it’s probably better and it’s way more Popular.

All games will be on the AFL and VFL sites and apps. Live and free. Why would you want to put it behind a paywall like Kayo who is rightfully copping it for price goughing.

Because it’s free on the app. Anyone who goes to the AFL APP will see a VFL live at the top of the screen and able to watch

7 has announced a long term deal today

Who knew 7 would be scared of the ABC snapping up B-tier competition rights

Maybe ABC can put Replays of all the other AFL Produced VFL Games on ABC iview which did not exist in 2014 when ABC last had the rights?

Still nothing from ABC about the VFL rights. No games appear in the forward schedules at this stage.

I think a sticking point is commercial sponsorship. Smithy’s beer (named after Aussie Rules pioneer Thomas Henry Smith) is the naming rights partner of the VFL, and the ABC can’t be seen to be promoting alcohol.

I don’t think they have to mention it, plus there have been plenty of times the ABC have shown sports with alcohol sponsorship.

This is a pure speculation on my part but this could mean that R2 game on FTA will be this game and that’s why it was moved from Sunday to Saturday?

No, turns out no flights out of Launceston that Sunday night.
Meanwhile, it’s been reported ‘another partner’ will be broadcasting the VFL alongside the ABC in a deal described by Greg Swann as ‘out of this world’

Fox?

Whichever that is, they might have the opening round. That’s why the ABC isn’t showing it on iView or the EPG.

Reading the article it says

Swann also said a new broadcast deal was close to being announced.

The Seven Network confirmed in January that it was pulling the plug on the VFL. The ABC will pick up the broadcast and it’s believed another outlet will also be on board.

Swann said it was a “fantastic outcome’’.

“We’ll have a really good combination of TV exposure this year.

“We’ll go from … not having a TV deal to having a TV deal that’s out of this world. There will be a heap of games on TV and different formats.’’

10/Paramount?

Unlikely given they have no other football content.

Fox/Kayo would be the most likely.

It looks like VFL games will be shown on ABC, Seven and Kayo.

While the finer details remain unclear, it’s understood Seven has agreed to broadcast non-Victorian club matches back into their own markets.

Long-time broadcast partner, the ABC, will return to show games in the Saturday afternoon traditional slot.

And streaming giant Kayo will broadcast a number of games across the season, most likely in timeslots that minimise clashes with AFL games.
