ABC will broadcast the VFL this season on TV and radio
Great news. Will be good to be able to watch VFL with no ads after goals again.
Wonder if it will be available outside Victoria.
I would think it would be FTA for only Vic and TAS with other places being able to watch on Iview
I wonder if they will broadcast any of Tasmaniaâs home games.
Coincidentally (or not), VFLâs fixture release day is today.
Itâs Box Hill v Sydney, March 20, 12.30pm AEDT as the opening game.
Great news, I hope the ABC will use the VFL as the foundation stone to rebuild its sporting line up.
The VFL will be the first sporting competition to be shown by the public broadcaster since it lost the WNBL rights to Nine in 2022.
How about NSW and QLD?
Good to read that the ABC will be covering the VFL for this year.
Good question on if it will air nationally, or just Victoria (and perhaps Tasmania)? There are teams from Gold Coast and Sydney + Greater Western Sydney competing too, So will they show it too? Or just selected games?
Oh yes I forgot there were NSW and QLD teams in the competition. I reckon they will get it on FTA as well.
Theyâll send those guys to iView.
I wonder what timeslot they will broadcast. Looking at the fixture the Saturday matches start from 11am to 2pm.
I could see the first game back on ABC being the Tasmania vs Coburg since itâs their first match in their steps to enter the AFL
Wonder what graphics will be used
I hope the commentators are up to the high standards of Phil Cleary, Sam Kekovich, Ross Booth and Peter Gee.
They have Corbin who does AFL for Fox. He will probably call games when it doesnât clash with Fox.
I can possibly see nigel carmody move from 7VFL to ABC AFL given he doesnât commentate afl for 7.
Also any news about the Gather Round SANFL v VFL match?
7 broadcasted it in 2025 since they broadcast both VFL & SANFL. I wonder what will happen now in 2026 since they are both with seperate broadcasters
Fantastic news. The ABC is getting back into covering sports.
I wouldnât be surprised that the end up getting other local competitions around Australia like they previously did.
Good to see ABC back covering state leagues as they did for many years. The SANFL could switch from 7 to ABC but 7 will keep the WAFL in Perth for the foreseeable future
Why is that?
WAFL is with The West until end of 2027 Iâm pretty sure. And it rates well for 7 too. Same with SANFL. I can see them keeping those 2 until they also become âcommercially unviableâ
I have more hope in ABC than seven broadcasting more than just the Vic teams
