I’d say the flustering might be down to calling off screens. So realistically as a commentator your relying on the television broadcast feed being fed to you. Which based on the Nine broadcasts we’ve seen, can be a little choppy, particularly the all-in feed of all the athletic field events.
They would be taking the world feeds from the OBS via Nine - they wouldn’t be relying on the pictures Nine is showing on it’s main channel.
Indeed. Evidence of this is in the fact that 2GB and ABC have both called various events which were not being shown on Nine or 9Gem. I noticed Bill Woods calling Djokovic’s gold medal a few days back, while 9Gem stuck with the golf.
I’m sure that’s why Nine gave ABC studio space in Pyrmont as it was easier to just give them access in a building where they were already getting every feed, rather than sending all of the feeds to yet another location.
Same thing happened in 2016 - ABC did their coverage out of a radio OB van parked outside Seven’s studios.
No doubt, the ABC have been covering up to half a dozen events at at time but judging from some of the on air comments they are all situated fairly close together.
Its hard to call track and field events interchangeably. Overall it has been done really well.
Has anyone managed to find photos of ABC commentators in action at 2GB studios? I had been looking on social media in the last few days but had no luck.
Quentin Hull posted a photo of himself with Melinda Gainsford-Taylor and Bruce McAvaney this morning.
Just out of curiosity, did anyone catch the ABC’s Olympic Coverage? Was it up to the usual standards?
They were in Paris weren’t they?
I didn’t listen to much ABC coverage but from what I did hear (mainly track and field) it was pretty good. Bruce was class as always and probably didn’t need Hull with him.
They were based out of Sydney - either at Nine’s radio studios, or at the ABC’s HQ.
ABC had a number of reporters in Paris.
The ABC’s team called the action at Nine’s radio studios in Sydney.
The reporters who were in Paris included Tom Maddocks, Amanda Shalala, Suzie Raines, and ABC Adelaide breakfast presenters Sonya Feldhoff and Jules Schiller.
Yesterday Ben Cameron also posted on social media a photo with Bruce, and Corbin Middlemas. Ben simply wrote the post: “Special”.
The Australian reports today the ABC spent around $135,000 to send Sonya Feldhoff and Jules Schiller and two producers to Paris to present their breakfast show from the city, and provide additional reporting for the ABC’s Olympics coverage.
The amount, revealed last week in a response to a question on notice from a Senate hearing in July, included flights, accommodation, hospitality, equipment, transport, broadcasting costs, and other related or ancillary costs.
SA Senator Alex Antic criticised the amount, saying it was inappropriate for the ABC to spend so much on such an assignment during the cost-of-living crisis.
Unless they flew business class, and food in France is just really expensive, there is no way it costed that much to send four people, and some equipment, over to France for just over 2 weeks.
Ok and?
What a ridiculous senator. It’s as thought they just nut pick at the most ridiculous things. They had the rights in Adelaide and it was well worth it.
Plus it surely doesn’t cost that much to send four people to Paris for two weeks.
ABC Radio will broadcast the Rugby Championship match between Argentina and Australia this Sunday (September 1) morning, most probably on digital radio and ABC listen app.
