ABC operations

Honestly the only thing is biased is you saying that the ABC Is biased, when there has not been any clear evident bias whatsoever in the reporting. Well maybe you should do yourself a favour and watch Sky News after dark and you can see the hell a lot of bias Credlin, Bolt and Murray spurt out nightly. Abc goes on facts , Sky News after dark is a full on bias bitch fetch against everything labour, abc etc etc.

Youā€™re taking the mickey, right? To say that ā€œthere has not been any clear evident bias whatsoever in their reportingā€. You are so misinformed it is not funny.

Restating the facts on Emma Albericiā€™s corporate tax stories

With the complaints regarding a news article and an analysis piece on corporate tax by ABC Chief Economics Correspondent Emma Alberici again being publicly discussed, the ABC would like to restate the facts on what the investigation into these complaints found.

A summary of the investigation into the story can be found here: ABC News Online | About the ABC

It says:
Nine complainants raised various concerns about coverage of corporate tax rates in two News Online stories: a news story examining why many large Australian companies do not pay corporate tax and an analysis of proposed changes to company tax rates. The complainants alleged that the reporting was inaccurate and partial.

The ABC agreed that the original news story headline and ā€˜teasersā€™ for both stories written by the ABCā€™s business desk were materially inaccurate. Although not materially misleading within the broader context of the article, brief references in the news story to GPT and CSRā€™s sugar business were incorrect; and reference to Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) and Chartered Accountants ANZ (CAANZ) should have been excluded or presented with more context. The ABC promptly corrected the headline and the inaccuracies in the news story, and the teasers were removed from the homepage. The inaccuracies were also acknowledged on the ABCā€™s Corrections and Clarifications page.

The ABC acknowledged that at times the analysis article read as opinion content: the structure of the article and the conclusive language had the effect of unduly favouring the conclusion that there is no evidence to support Government claims that a corporate tax rate will increase investment and wages. As such, the piece did not meet ABC editorial standards for impartiality. The article was removed for review and republished with significant changes. An Editorā€™s note was prominently displayed at the beginning of the piece. In addition, ABC News management have implemented new procedures and responsibilities to increase editorial oversight for potentially complex and contentious stories.

Other aspects of the complaints were not upheld. Separate to this investigation, ABC News management undertook their own internal review of this coverage.

Thanks ShadowDan for your comments.

Firstly itā€™s not a good situation where someone perceives that the ABC should be someoneā€™s punching bag for discontent. There are many that want the ABC to come out of all this mess as a better balanced organisation.

Re bias. Iā€™ll rephrase this as ā€˜selective biasā€™ as & when it occurs. Rather than (wasting my time) trying to convince you that it exists/existed within the ABC myself Iā€™ll refer you to a former ABC employeeā€™s experiences & insight into the organisation per this very recent podcast for you to digest. However before clicking the link below I do issue this caveat; the following link I provide originates from a commercial news talkback radio station; 2GB (which sits either in the sensible centre or a little to the right of centre on the political left/right line, depending on the announcer/guest you listen to). So if someone reading this message is from the far socialist/marxist left & has a vomit attack, brain explosion or stroke whilst listening please note you have been warned, in fact Iā€™d encourage you NOT to listen for your own health & in consideration of your loved ones.

Re Sky After Dark - sorry I donā€™t have access to it, so canā€™t comment. That said it is a commercial operation & not funded by the Australian Taxpayer nor do they broadcast free to air, so if they have a perceived bias Iā€™m sorry. If they were so radically right as you claim I reckon they would loose their sensible centre audience or most of their audience. If commercial TV programs operators distort the news & the like for sensationalism or ratings they usually get caught out by ABC TV programs like Media Watch. The ACMA also handle complaints.

Most Australians donā€™t have an appetite for extreme politics.

Thatā€™s given me the laugh I needed at the end of the day.

What a load of crap!

You do realise that 2GB is stridently anti ABC? So why would an article like that have any currency.

Also if youā€™d done some homework youā€™d know that this disgruntled employee went through all sorts of editorial backlash from all sides when it happened. Ages ago.

Hmmm one editor out of how many whoā€™ve worked/are working at the broadcaster you sneer at through Tony Abbott glasses.

Oh and Sky does broadcast free-to-air via WIN TV

Thanks for reply. Itā€™s easy to spurt out one liners. So please be specific & detailed with your objections & argue your case if you wish to taken seriously my friend.

See above

Yeah I know. This thread is supposed to be about ABC operations. Not the rantings of people who think they know about the inner workings and thoughts of everyone who works there.

And donā€™t seem to understand the difference between opinion/discussion shows and journalism

Thanks for the reply. Re WIN TV, I didnā€™t think that the SKY News broadcasts had begun via WIN TV yet. If so I am happy to stand corrected on that point.

As for ā€˜personal insultsā€™ (not necessary) re Tony Abbot glasses. Let me correct you. Iā€™m NOT a Tony Abbott follower, never have been, never will be. I reject some of his views, some others I might agree with. Please refer to my previous comments about incorrect stereotyping i.e the miserably failing bit.

:joy::joy::joy: pull the other one mate.

Noted. Especially the stereotyping relating to the alleged politics of everyone who works at the ABC and other public broadcasters. And that you have to be like that to get a job there.

One decent thing I will actually add here is that ABC really need to consider re-broadcasting on SW across Southern Australia and the Northern Territory. Iā€™m sick of only recieving Radio NZ International on my SW receiver.

Oh please donā€™t let the Senate pick the board. That would be a disaster if the Greens had anything to do with it.

Why do you care? Arenā€™t you too busy listening to 2GB and watching Sky News for their ā€œcentreā€ views?

You should watch the 4 hour long video Senate Standing Committees investigation into the closure of Radio Australia (RA). The two ABC staff & two members of the Dept of Foreign Affairs really didnā€™t understand the impact of the loss of the RA & domestic shortwave. Most of the Senate committee members were ignorant as well, but some were keen to learn. The ABC management under MG were hell bent on the digital streaming model. MG you could say was quite ignorant. Seems also from Media watch segment that the board didnā€™t understand much about broadcasting, less re impact of loss of shortwave as well. I wasnā€™t impressed by some of the senate findings released late last year. Nick Xenophon was almost a lone voice.

Why not? At least give the Greens a try. I am sure the Senators will use their powers wisely.
