Wrong again. They’re a massive improvement and showcase the 24 hour weather forecast animation.

Stop being so hyperbolic and go back to timing seven news Melbourne opens.

Is it ABC News ACT or Canberra?

Why don’t they show off the set? The Victorian bulletin and others have angles. Might as well have Juanita in front of a green screen…

They do @MBB

Weather graphics in Queensland - much like ABC Breakfast very poor resolution again and look at the bad green screen :frowning2:

The opener and music is good, the on screen GFX furniture looks a bit muddled and the sets look like they could use a bit of a spruce up.

Yet another You Tube video - ABC News Queensland 7 pm bulletin opener and a few graphics elements.

Overall the new weather graphics are the only good thing about this relaunch, but again my point stands. The text is too small and crammed into parts of the screen.

Look at that 7 day weather forecast and sunrise/sunset clips in the post above and tell me they are making good use of the full screen?

…and South of the Border:

Why do I get the impression that the additional animated elements (especially during the Weather!) will get criticised for being too similar to the On-Air Presentation of commercial TV news services?

Here’s ABC News Victoria. I think the titles are managed better than others, notice how even the screen behind Ian Henderson animates with the open, but everything looks fuzzy not being broadcast in HD. It looks fuzzier than the old on-screen-graphics.

I definitely think Victoria has the strongest opener. Strong, authoritative presenter plus a much longer opener too.

What’s the point of having something on screen if very few people can read it?

I don’t need a date check on my news bulletins but my point remains.

It looks good but the quality of the graphics are horrid! I don’t understand why the studio first of all wasn’t upgraded to HD when they built it.
No wonder the weather graphics for Breakfast on the screen look horrid and fuzzy. The whole package is in SD and it really does let the whole look down.
Mass F-up here ABC. Especially when they have national programs being broadcast from that studio. The ticker will return with bigger text but I know its gonna be fuzzy as buggery!

Let’s just hope it’s a rolling process. I remember seeing the ABC requesting expressions of interest to upgrade their studio output equipment late last year or something like that.

What’s the point of presentation elements at all? Those who notice that the pictures change and the date is dovetailed in get a much greater appreciation for the effort which goes into the bulletin, that’s why. It’s a branding element and a little polished detail to show the graphics aren’t simplistic because of laziness; rather it’s an effect they were going for.

Just because you can’t read it for whatever reason, doesn’t mean it isn’t a worthwhile effort. It’s a cool little extra effort the ABC went into the trouble of doing to enhance the titles. I for one am really impressed with the end result (I voted 4/5).

Was there a long closer this evening?

All that space it looks stupid the way it’s set up. May as well of just kept the old shoebox studio. Really disappointed in the ABC actually, It’s 2017 and nothing I have seen reflects that or the point of the relaunch with ABC News Victoria. So much SD it hurts my eyes! Don’t even know if I can watch it again :frowning:

This is pretty different from graphics elements.

I guess we have different views on the purpose of news presentation, particularly on a public broadcaster that rates highly in older demographics.

I think it’s cool too. But it should be adjusted so that more than just us Mediaspy-ers and an odd few others can notice them.

Same :+1:

I didn’t take much notice, they used the 2010 closing theme.
