Syan Vallance is leaving the Melbourne newsroom to join the ABC’s London bureau.
Wednesday 23 April -
Ishkandar Razak presenting in the Melbourne studio, while Tamara Oudyn presenting federal election news from an oval in Wallan (likely Wallan Recreational Reserve) in central Victoria. Wallan is in the key federal seat of McEwen.
And from this I learned just how tall Richard Willingham is!
Monday 28 April -
Ishkandar Razak presenting in Victoria tonight.
Isk has been making a mess of his news reading lately … being making a number of stumbles, particularly with pronunciation, and seems to have a little difficulty reading the autocue (needs glasses?).
Last night was disastrous, making a number of errors but the most cringeworthy was trying to pronounce the name of the Canadian politician Poilievre … taking at least 3 or 4 attempts and in the end he just gave up and called him “Pol” and wisely moved on!
Suzie Raines and Yvonne Yong are much stronger presenters. Isk seems more interested in doing some naff ending to the bulletin and wearing suits inappropriate for the day’s news.
Last night it was ‘ stay watching for 7:30 with the great and powerful Sarah Ferguson’ or something along those lines.
Yes, you’re right. Yvonne would be an excellent replacement for Isk … the ABC’s diversity policy would be intact with one Asian ethnic replacing another, although the ABC is so light on male presenters, which might become the deciding factor? And Yvonne has other ABC presenting roles that keep her busy.
Suzie is also excellent, although I have noticed that she obviously gets very nervous, almost tense when presenting on TV … I think she prefers radio.
Suzie is not a good TV presenter. Very stiff and unnatural. I’m surprised anyone remembers her. She hasn’t read TV News for years.
Yvonne would be okay as long as she stops saying “ay” instead of “uh” every time the letter ‘a’ appears in a sentence. Drives me and others nuts.
I agree that Isk probably needs to step back from presenting. Last night was a mess. And like @Bomberpinot, I also suspect he needs glasses by the look on his face when he’s mangling things.
But who’s left now that Syan and Bridget have both left Melbourne? Please don’t suggest Tran. He’s awful.
Any news of Lydia Feng returning? She presented consistently well
Wouldn’t put it past the ABC to put a NSW presenter on the Vic bulletin.
It’s a shame we have had years and years of ABC management obsessed with making some quick short term savings by offering redundancies to experienced hands with no thought given to what happens in the future.
Tom Maddox is a talent, they should be building him up. Or at least give Danny Tran some basic training before throwing him on the desk.
Is Tom still there? Haven’t noticed him on air for a while.
Also, you can’t really train someone to be a good presenter. They’ve either got the skills innately or not at all.
Did we ever figure out what happened to her? She was removed from Iview, just before the Parramatta move.
Yes, it was atrocious. I remember commenting to my other half last night what a messy news read that was. The reference to Sarah Ferguson on 7.30 was weird, too.
I remember her, but like you, I think she’s much better on the radio. She reads the ABC Radio news bulletins sometimes, but I haven’t heard her for a while.
What a strange comment.
She was taken off The World wasn’t she? I doubt she is busy.
Interesting to hear about Isk. I liked him on Breakfast. But haven’t seen him in a while. Odd that his presenting would be getting worse?
Is Ben Knight still around?
Yes. Ben is currently working on the election. They will also have Michael Rowland and Elias Clure (when he’s done with his posting).
Virginia Trioli is another name that ABC Tv could use if they wanted.
I am fairly sure some comms teams for some MPs refuse to deal with her. Best keep her away
