Queensland newsreader Matthew Wordsworth just announced on the ABC Radio Brisbane drive program heâll be taking some long service leave after this weekend wraps up for a few months. He says Weekend newsreader Jessica van Vonderen and Lexy Hamilton-Smith will be sharing news reading duties on the bulletin during his absence.

Who are the actual assigned presenters of ABC News Victoria and why are they never on air? This thread is filled with posts saying someone else is filling in basically 5/6 nights a week.
The assigned presenters of ABC News Victoria are:
Sunday - Thursday: Tamara Oudyn
Friday - Saturday: Mary Gearin
Tamara is currently in isolation because two of her kids tested positive to COVID.
Well, according to this thread (and not just the past few weeks either so the COVID excuse doesnât fly) neither of those ladies are hardly ever there.
Mary often fills in on Local Radio, Tamara on RN which means time away from the news studio and unlike commercial news bulletins, ABC presenters actually utilise their leave entitlements throughout the year including days in lieu for public holidays. Bonus is it creates a depth of presenting talent.
I donât mind Iskhander Razak and Bridget Rollason. They are great presenters.

Tamara Oudyn is back presenting in Victoria tonight,she had been away since 11 May.
Over 400 mourners â including her âABC familyâ of former colleagues Geraldine Doogue, Jenny Brockie, Kerry OâBrien, Quentin Dempster, Maxine McKew and Mike Carlton, ABC chair Ita Buttrose and managing director David Anderson â gathered on Monday to pay tribute in a Requiem Mass. Her âfaith familyâ made up of fellow parishioners, young women sheâd mentored and Afghan children from the Sydney orphanage where she volunteered and was known affectionately as âgrandmotherâ, joined them at St Maryâs Church in North Sydney.

I agree with another user who commented in recent days, the presenting roster on the Melbourne bulletin is up the creek. You literally have no idea who will be presenting from night to night on their flagship bulletin. Mary Ghearin is the most reliable and the most competent, they should just give her the main gig.
Itâs frankly an ABC 1-2 with News Breakfast not far behind in that category.
On this point, I appreciate that the ABC have a lot of great talent in Victoria but seriously itâs like a merry-go-round with presenters on their 7pm news and News Breakfast. This kind of stuff wouldnât fly at commercial networks or even the other ABC News bulletins local and national.
Of course I understand that Auntyâs protocols are a bit different but itâs kind of pointless having a permanent lineup if theyâre going to be away often for secondments.
Tamara is not always away for secondments. She may have to deal with issues at home which takes priority over presenting news (she and Mary both have their own families).
So do all News presenters but no one in the industry is away as much as those two.
