Stan Grant has joined ABC NEWS in a new multiplatform role as International Affairs Analyst.
Grant will provide stories and analysis for ABC Online, 7.30 , Four Corners , audio current affairs and TV news. This will include contributing to a new regular China segment on The World each Thursday night, produced by the News Channel and the Asia Pacific Newsroom team.
āThe world is at a critical period,ā Grant said. āCoronavirus has laid waste to our economies and revealed our fragility at the same time as democracy is in retreat and a more authoritarian China is reshaping global power.
āIām really looking forward to drawing on my three decades as a reporter covering the big conflicts and stories of our time and joining the dots of that for Australians.ā
Director, News Gaven Morris said the story of China and its complex relationships around the world, including with Australia, was one of the most important of our time.
āCovering the China story is a priority, and weāre actively examining a range of options for how ABC NEWS will continue to provide Australians with the most complete and authoritative reporting and analysis,ā he said.
āStan Grant is one of Australiaās most knowledgeable and respected journalists, with extensive direct China experience, and itās terrific to have him as part of the ABC NEWS team.ā

Sunday 27 September to Tuesday 29 September-
Mary Gearin is presenting in Victoria filling in for Tamara again this week.
Tam returned tonight.
And a sincere apology from Elias
And some reality from Tamara Oudyn
Jane Norman had an issue just before 5pm waiting for end titles to roll eyes rolled back and threw her head back. Looked to be in exasperation after the RC breaking news, didnāt manage to record it.
Some ABC personalities seem to be taking that clip personally. Not sure why, and not sure why Media Watch couldnāt highlight it. Odd.
This tweet yesterday from 7 news political reporter Jennifer Bechwati was spot on!
Again, why?
I donāt quite get the outrage either.
Wasnāt it also Media Watch on Twitter who highlighted the Natasha Exelby gaffe in 2017? It might come as a surprise to some people here and within the industry, but Media Watch has been highlighting stuff like this for over 30 years - even if the highlighting of bloopers and similarly weird moments is largely done online these days as the main program on TV has shifted its focus somewhat to more serious media analysis.
Reporters have the right to screw up a prerecord. But thereās a responsibility to check the tape for the right take.
Whoever didnāt has screwed up. Plain and simple. Lumps taken, carry on.
Whereās Joe OāBrien been? Havenāt seen him on the Morning News for a while now.
