Elias Clure awarded the 2021 Andrew Olle Scholarship

image

Elias is a multi-platform reporter based in the ABC’s Melbourne newsroom.

He started as an ABC News cadet in 2017 and has also worked in the Darwin newsroom.

Each year the Scholarship winner has the chance to work with leading practitioners of their craft through placements in strategic areas of the ABC, with the aim of giving the scholar a broader perspective to their work.

Elias is aiming for placements with long-form News programs.

“Experience in investigations and long-form programs will give me the opportunity to absorb and learn from the best,” he says. “It will allow me to develop skills in areas that are relatively hard for me to access as a Melbourne daily news reporter.

“With these skills, I would also be keen to innovate and contribute to the ABC’s burgeoning on-demand strategy and contribute ideas and means in which unique stories can be told.

“The Andrew Olle scholarship can provide me with the storytelling skills that will allow me to present engaging content that will appeal to communities – culturally and geographically – that we often don’t meet.

“I identify strongly with the ABC’s values but I also believe strongly its flagship programs can be more diverse. My lived experience can offer a unique perspective.”

The Andrew Olle Scholarship was founded by the ABC in 1996 to commemorate the life and work of esteemed journalist, broadcaster and program-maker Andrew Olle.
