A health scare for North America correspodent Kathryn Diss after covering a Donald Trump rally at Oklahoma last month. No wonder we haven’t heard her reports on radio or TV in the past couple of weeks.
Due to current COVID-19 restrictions in Melbourne and at the Southbank studio means that The World isn’t able to be presented there along with the whole team. However Yvonne will continue to work and contribute in the newsroom and on Paul Higgins Weather Wall, for her stories and reports. The World This Week is still being presented from Melbourne though. It will take a while before Melbourne takes over The World from Sydney again due to surging cases.
How come it’s only impacting The World and not other programs which are based in Melbourne like News Breakfast and Insiders?
Good point, it probably has something to do with the production or a curfew in the evening. I will follow that up with one of the people at the ABC Asia Pacific Newsroom.
Yet to see it mentioned here, but The West reported yesterday that ABC News Perth presenter James McHale accepted voluntary redundancy. The newspaper is speculating that the likely candidates are out of Charlotte Hamlyn and Pamela Medlen (weekends presenter) along with others.
Only source I could find is behind a paywall, unfortunately https://thewest.com.au/entertainment/tv/who-is-in-line-to-replace-james-mchale-as-abc-perth-anchor-ng-b881616593z
James was not the best presenter, but still a loss.
I think they should bring Craig Smart back, but given the circumstances, it will mostly likely go to Pamela.
What is Craig Smart up to these days anyway?
I remember when Craig Smart was briefly on Ten News Perth back in 2011 with Narelda Jacobs.
At one stage after leaving 10 he worked for one of the universities in WA.
Don’t know what he is up to now.
Greg Jennett filled-in on Weekend Breakfast this morning
He also filled in yesterday.
Phillip Lasker, Simon West and Andrew Robertson have accepted voluntary redundancies from the ABC. Negotiations are reportedly continuing with Emma Alberici about her forced redundancy, to see if there is another role for her within the ABC such as in radio, but it appears she will probably be leaving.

Lasker is an excellent senior reporter. I’m guessing that he may be taking the opportunity to effectively have an early retirement.
Ros Childs hosting Mornings today as Joe is having a COVID-19 test.
Phillip Lasker often filled in for Alan Kohler for finance reports. Who is going to do finance when Alan is away?
Perhaps they’ll just get the local presenters to do them?
Sad that he is losing his job as a result of cuts, but he wasn’t a great presenter.
Anyone think perhaps Michael Tetlow might be in contention? He already presents the late news/overnights from Perth on weekdays and would be easier to move across to 7pm as well.
I reckon that’s what we’ll see for Finance on ABC News every night after Alan Kohler retires.
It’s only a couple of minutes long so maybe Elysse Morgan?
And an update from Joe…
Been watching a lot of News 24 lately and I’m quite impressed with the standard of the anchors and how they handle rolling coverage. Standard leaves many other networks for dead.
Lorna, Mirium, Roz, are very good. I think Lorna needs something bigger considering the capacity she hosted on the UK.
