I was around in the days of physical weather maps, but they’d been replaced with green screens by the time I was old enough to remember.
A guy on YouTube has posted a extended version of this theme upscaled with Audacity. Maybe this might just be it?

Not really, it’s just the mono version that’s had some work done. To date, the best elements we have of the 1998 arrangement in stereo is this, which is missing approximately 8 seconds outside of the opener elements…

A bit more of a local flavour on ABV in the ‘90’s.
Yesterday (27th) marked the 40th anniversary of the debut of the Ansell and Wall ABC News theme. It debuted on 7 pm bulletins on Monday, 27th January 1986.
The 1986 arrangement lasted until 1998, when a new arrangement by Ansell and Wall with a heavier focus on brass was used until 2005. It made a comeback in 2024 with a new arrangement by David McDonald using the original 1986 masters and was remixed once again in 2025, which is the one currently in use.
