ABC News Content and Appearance

They use Sydney title cards majority of the time on the News channel so I don’t see the issue.

Honestly I’m surprised that the ABC actually thought about making their Late News and Overnight news better. I think the 9pm ABC News from Melbourne should do the same and utilise the studio space since most of it only used for News Breakfast, 7pm VIC and The World instead of just a backdrop.

Not thrilled about standing news. But at least unlike Brisbane, the weather and news presenters aren’t staring at each other directly across the floor.

Great to see they’re not hiding that it’s coming from Perth, a bit of balance.

Interesting that they’ve created an open view into the newsroom as well.

I just noticed that they mixed the current generic newsroom backdrop with the WA backdrop. Honestly! For a bulletin that’s broadcast around Australia at midnight just scrap the WA backdrop completely.

Unless the recorded bulletin was the one especially made for WA audiences…

Given how many hours a day they use it, the Parliament House set is due for a refresh

Really agree with this. It should be the best set in the country given its hours on air.

Despite it being a national bulletin, I think the Late News on News Channel is more focused forwards the WA viewers due to the time difference between the west and east coast, but still I agree that it doesn’t make sense to have the WA skyline as the backdrop.

If the broadcast originates in Perth, WA it absolutely makes sense to have a Perth skyline backdrop.

Plenty of national shows have the backdrop of the city they are originating in (news Breakfast has Melbourne, today has Sydney - sky shows always have everything from Adelaide to Canberra to Sydney depending on where they originate)

I don’t follow. Why not? Other national shows feature the backdrop
Of the city they originate in. What’s your reasoning?

What shows are broadcast on abc news from Parliament House ? Don’t more hours come from Sydney?

Okay fair enough News Breakfast and Afternoon Briefing have the skylines of the city the show is originating from, however do you see the 6pm ABC News showing a Sydney skyline or the 9pm ABC News showing the Melbourne skyline? Even The World at 10pm shows it’s custom green skyline. It’s a bit strange why Perth would be the only one with a WA skyline backdrop when all the others are the normal backdrop now that’s seen on the News Channel from Sydney. There’s nothing wrong about a WA skyline but it’s national bulletin shown across Australia simultaneously so to me it wouldn’t make sense but it’s my opinion. I understand what you mean though.

Well, they’re not. We see lots of national broadcasts with local backdrops to indicate the city they are in.

In this case in particular ABC probably wants ro highlight that some key programming is originating outside the east coast. A good thing and a thing worth highlighting I think.

ABC News Queensland crossed to Jessica van Vonderen who was at the Ipswich Show. Then followed multiple reports about Ipswich including a live interview with the Mayor for approx 7 minutes of the bulletin. Later the weather also was from the show.
