ABC News Content and Appearance

If it is a simulcast, will it be shown on delay in QLD, SA, NT and WA?

I guess not, which is why it’s being cut back to half an hour.

Seems like the show airing for half an hour is only a temporary thing for the Summer series though

Until/unless we hear a formal announcement confirming it as a permanent schedule fixture, I agree that the national edition of ABC News at 6pm is likely to be a temporary/over Summer thing.

If ABC News at 6pm was here to stay for good, surely they’d try and have state/territory-based editions (while retaining the existing products at 7pm, of course)?

Is there any new info on the upcoming VIC NEWS set?

I think I’m a little late to the party, but when did ABC NSW receive this set?

May 12 last year.

It’s a decent set (and I’m looking forward to seeing the Victorian take on it), but they’d really benefit from HD and better lighting!

Wow, that long, shows how little I watch. I completely agree though about the lighting, seems very dull and inconsistent.

Does Anyone Have Any Info On The VIC NEWS set?

You’ve been asking every day and no one has replied, so clearly we don’t know any more information about it.

Does anyone know where the ABC LOCAL NEWS places their webcams for the studio backdrop, or do they just take a photo of the state capital’s Skyline, add those glass boards to the photo, then put it on the slideshow?

I wonder if we’ll see the launch of Victoria’s new set coincide with the first ā€œregularā€ edition (by that, I obviously refer to the first one of the year with all main presenters on-board) of News Breakfast for 2020?

Either way, it’d be reasonably safe to presume that the new multipurpose set in Melbourne will likely be heavily based on the one we got in NSW last May - obviously I’m expecting any Victorian version to have an additional lounge/couch area and stuff for News Breakfast/Insiders/Outsiders but no significant differences when it comes to the presentation of the 7pm news.

They are animated loops, and very outdated ones at that.

I’d like to see the current NSW-styled opener for Victoria once the new Melbourne set is in full swing.

It seems that you’re right, the 7pm NSW news is still in blurry SD. In a way I’m not entirely disappointed, because I do really want to be there when (very long awaited) history is made and Sydney becomes a market where all local TV news bulletins are produced/aired in HD!

Hopefully there are plans to upgrade that control room soon because as we’ve seen in the ABC News Channel thread, the current NSW set really shines in HD (although it’d look even better if the lighting was improved…) but looks so-so in SD.

I’d imagine that is almost a certainty, if Victoria also adopts the ā€œdesklessā€ presentation style that the 7pm NSW & Late Edition bulletins have.

Sorry but did anybody happen to record ABC News at 7PM in NSW tonight on their PVR? I was supposed to but the machine died, and I’m trying to create a vault for 2020.

What’s been happening recently on the news channel is that nearly all the news programs (if not all the news programs) have been broadcasting from Studio 32. According to Gemma Veness, they’re revamping the current news channel studio.

I’m actually happy that they’re giving it a fresh look, since it’s already nearly a decade old, and the only things that have changed are the backdrops and graphics.

Still remember in the first year of ABC NEWS 24?

ABC News starting at 7:04 tonight due to A-League.

The ABC needs to get the A-league to start the soccer match earlier so that it definitely ends before 7:00pm. Delaying the news because a minor sport goes overtime is unacceptable.

I just saw the A-League replay on iView. Despite the late finish, the ABC’s telecast still missed the final whistle by around 10 seconds.
The injury time at the end of the second half of a soccer match is solely the referee’s decision and out of the broadcaster’s control. Even if the match kicks off just after the ABC’s telecast begins at 5pm, there will still be a small chance the match ends after 7pm.
