Actually looks a lot better. Anyone got the new backdrops from other cities?

Victoria:

The set panels now look out of place and the intro titles look out of place as well. Also using the square look for headline transitions instead of the ones seen on the news channel.

Overall I like the use of OTS and the set extension look on the left. If they update the side panels it’ll look more cohesive.

I wonder why they haven’t replaced the generic fake newsroom behind the presenters on the news channel with something similar to the state bulletins.

Also the white boxes set panel graphic on the Ultimo and state 7pm studios, which should’ve been updated when the original package launched.

They like wasting money, would be my guess?

These boxes are just stupid IMO - looked much better when it was just a single image

My two cents based on all the stills I’ve seen here…

News Breakfast: Not a fan of the round symbol in the supers - looks unbalanced and tacked on. I remember there was a mock that has a similar idea; it looked oversized then, and so does the actual graphics.

The overlapping ticker/headlines looks like the tail fin on a plane.

If they use the same L-shape as the correspondent tags, and use that decorative blank space for sub-headings, that might be more useful, but even smaller font sizes on a typeface that’s already hard to read is an unwanted trade-off.

The refreshed backdrop IMO is a bit generic compared to the previous palette.

NC: The bevels look rather plasticky than liquid glass, when you compare to, say, Channel 5 UK. For the supers, I wish they use the same stacked layout across headlines and subheadings, rather than the current mix.

It’s a bit inconsistent, and even with the additional bevels, the original layout still doesn’t look good.

The individual reporter tags look more polished than a pastel box, which however persists in pushbacks.

As for the studio graphics, I find it weird that the new design gives some depth to the L shape on the monoliths when blank:

But that doesn’t translate to on-screen elements that use it?

On a plus side, the stripey logo in the full-screen transitions and metro news backdrops looks more detailed than the flat film strips, but it doesn’t match with the rest of the package somehow?

Also, I’m pretty sure they don’t use AI, but putting city names in a separate floating rectangle like this:

Kinda reminds me of the ChatGPT title graphics with the unnecessary shapes on text (no shade to @KICK-IT of course):

Rant over!

The ABC News website also has the Liquid Glass look

Hey my mock (pretty much minus stylizing) came true!

The screen behind the desk in the WA set looks terrible with this new update… so many pixels.

Agree with a lot of this although most of it should be in the ABCNews Channel

I wonder if we will see any new sets soon considering:

NC studio at Ultimo is 6 years old

Old 7pm studio at Ultimo is 7 years old

VIC set is 6 years old

WA set is 5 years old

QLD set is 6 years old

ACT set is 4 years old

NT set is 4 years old

SA set is 4 years old

TAS set is 4 years old

I think any set changes will have to wait after the next federal election (expected in 2028) when the government funding is clear.

Plus SA is more likely to get a new set when they move into new studios

The current era of sets (not including the unique designs at Ultimo or Parramatta) aren’t all that old and seem to be holding their age pretty well through the latest graphics refreshes. I hope the ABC gets bang for their buck and they see several more years’ use!

Just because a set is a few years old doesn’t outright mean it needs to be binned and replaced. Nine’s sets are hitting 10 years later this year and have never looked better!

9 is far behind in modern sets, they still use the old style of video wall that was used during the news24 era and stuff

I’ve finally seen the new news graphics on the big screen (ie television) and I think they’re a considerable improvement on the old.

The 7PM NSW News had no opening, just straight into the first story and no L3s.

I assume it has something to do with the technical issues that the News Channel experienced earlier.

I’m pretty sure the parramatta studio controls room is at Ultimo
