ABC News Content and Appearance

No it is not - you were proven wrong. If you actually have evidence, show us.

And those local news managers are very concerned about what happens if there is a big breaking story. It’s very likely staff will make plans for the four-day period. That means they will not be available to come back at the last minute if the big one drops.

This is what I’m concerned about as well.

Yeah, I really can’t find anything on TV Tonight?

Oh whoops my mistake, I got them mixed up.

Yes it’s TV Blackbox and Rob McKnight!

Really? What if something really big happens and all hands on deck are needed?

They’d better hope this doesn’t back fire.

I’m gonna tempt fate just to piss you off Mr Pickle.

Seriously, it’s their frigging job. The commercials can keep running local stuff going, and they’re up shit creek with no paddle, why can’t the ABC?

They’ll just fly some staff from Ultimo over, I guess. God forbid if news breaks in regional WA.

They just choose not to, they’ve all but abandoned local TV news outside of politics.

WA staying local for the weekend, but would imagine a crew will be on in the big centres, or on-call at least

Because they spent all their money on the VFL? :winking_face_with_tongue:

In reality, it’s probably got some truth all the OT with the heavy news cycle, but surely they’d have funding for that at least. Delivering a national service in times of need. Maybe to do with investment in other areas and resources recently (Parramatta, National Forum, Adelaide, the whole rebranding of ABC Family/entertains) finally caught up to them

They way things are going, they’re going to have to pick up the slack once the commercials get their wish and can drop regional news.

Seriously, if it’s all about cost cutting, I can think of a few things tax payers dollars have been wasted on that are a lot worse.

Yes, it really is no different to the rest of the year. Nobody goes to the ABC TV News for local coverage.

Is there a reason the ABC doesn’t get a local content quota when the commercials do (Even 10 has ‘local’ noodle updates, and they wasted 20 million on 10News+)

If the news dept is so short of cash you wonder why we need weather presenters on local bulletins for 3 minutes a night on weekdays.

News flash: it’s their job. Yes there have been some rather big news events recently. But they have to keep going, the news doesn’t stop.

  1. The commercials don’t have local quota’s - those are for select regional areas
  2. Back when they implemented it, the ABC had better local TV news out-put

Another reason why we should have local quotas forced on these entities if they can’t be bothered to do what’s needed

Why does WA get a reprieve? A bulletin from the nc would still be live? And there’s less happening in WA than any other state.

Because the national updates will be outdated by the time it broadcasts in WA, as has been constantly emphasized, “due to time difference”.

If you have staff to produce radio bulletins, might as well do it for TV.

As I said, just take a live bulletin from the news channel. It’s all the east coast will be getting.
