It’s also almost impossible to read the text because of the SD stream.
Great points.
I really can’t think of any other network anywhere in the world rolling out such a poor update.
It really is so so bad. I’m wondering if emailing the ABC would be helpful? Some issues seem like small fixes and I certainly know from my own (different line of) work, when you’re in it all day everyday you don’t see some of the problems and an outside eye is actually very helpful. Some of the problems are bigger and I am sure won’t be addressed until the next update but there is some tinkering they could
do, for sure.
I mean it took them a week or two to fix the issues with the ticker in the last package.
I’m sure they will also do a minor refresh of the package similar to what they did in 2021 and 2014
Wonderful. Only 3 more years until a minor graphics patch then!
what was the refresh in 2014?
Some minor changes to graphics IIRC
Just found when doing some random search: the ABC News rebrand featured some input from Red Bee Media, the London-based creative branch of Ericsson. Additionally, if you click on the video reel, you’ll have a good clean listen to the remixed theme:
Good find, although I reckon the theme in the video is an early version of the remix as you can hear several elements from the original 1985 recording that didn’t make it into the final 2024 mix and the mix on the trumpet is different as well.
When is ABC News Sydney meant to move to Parramatta?
Next Monday.
Thanks, couldn’t remember if it was today or next week.
There are so many elements in this that are nicer and better executed than what made it to air. But there’s no saving the small serif font on headlines (with the text too tight to boot).
This animation is interesting too. It feels like the opener should begin with just this frame so the audience understands the context for the rest of the package. However, the ‘shape’ they’ve drawn around the logo also shows how lazily this excellent idea was executed. There are so many other shapes and angles that would’ve been more obviously taken from the logo than the arrow/play button and some rectangles with rounded edges.
All of the newsroom staff move to Parramatta on Monday, however the news will still be broadcast from Ultimo until later this year as the Parramatta studio is still being completed.
You’re kidding me… how will they cover any events which happen around the CBD / inner city if they’re 30 minutes away?? Will they have one based at Ultimo?
there will still be a small team at Ultimo to cover city events like courts and state politics
25% of staff involved in content production will remain at Ultimo - I presume this will include various news departments, including the NC shifts not moving to Paramatta.
@Newshound will 7.30 remain at Ultimo?
the newsroom moves Monday, other national and network teams including 730 will still be based at Ultimo, although will have desks at parramatta for when and if they want to report from the new facility
Good to hear the national teams will also remain at Ultimo to cover institutions such as RBA, etc.
Someone should tell TV Tonight then because the information came from their article a few weeks ago.
That article from TV tonight is incorrect - the news is definitely going to be broadcast from Ultimo for a while longer.
