ABC News (Channel)

She’s OK for a rolling news channel where the audience just cares about the news and nothing more.

Unfortunately she probably won’t score a presenting role if she was at one of the commercial networks.

Agreed. Those wings look like it’s added for the sake of being added. Kind of inspired by the old CBS This Morning desk.

Wonder whether they’re fixed to the desk or if they can be taken out if needed to accommodate more people sitting at the desk?

I think she was pretty good on Weekend Breakfast.

I think the standard shifts kind of grind on you, especially during these times…

No change. I guess the new set might be reserved for afternoons and evenings only?

It makes absolutely no sense. Use the NSW set for Mornings, it’s fine, but at least use the new background loop.

Again, if anyone on twitter wants to ask Joe what’s going on…

But isn’t closed captioning providing the same service without intruding on the picture?

The current closed captioning service isn’t reliable, words are missed or full of typos. Importantly, Auslan is a language in itself.

The interpreter in a box thing is pretty common on the BBC, I think an hour of BBC Breakfast has it and it pops up during the day on the News Channel. It’s a small change but incredibly meaningful for the deaf community.

Yes, it’s still in Studio 27 at Ultimo looking out at the atrium. They’ve just rotated the set 90 degrees so the window isn’t really visible on-air anymore.

Wasn’t it Studio 27?

(Roughly 20 seconds in Kirsten mentions it)

Ah yes, you’re right. I guess it’s official name is Studio 27.
I assumed because it was home to the News24 set that that would’ve been the obvious choice - guess I was wrong :joy:

It is however the same studio it’s always been, with the viewing window into the atrium.

Well at least Joe knows where the new studio is! https://www.instagram.com/p/B-7DgUCp8R_

I would say the morning crew are currently practicing in the new studio this afternoon.

The Afternoon News is coming from the local Sydney studio.

Is Afternoon Briefing (from 400-5.00pm) now all done from Melbourne with Patricia Karvelas?

Or is this a temporary set up for this week?

She and the programme are based in Melbourne.

With the old of new background loop?

While PK is based in Melbourne the show also features the afternoon news presenter in Sydney.

This afternoon was all produced from Melbourne. Which made me question it.

Great to see the weather being presented from the new set with some nice panning shots. They need to sort their shit out and start using the set all day.

Yes. Was watching at around 1pm (Ros Childs was presenting) and the backdrop looked dreadful (an aqua coloured newsroom). I wonder why they’re still using the Sydney set for NC when they have a proper good set ready.

Even if there’s a legitimate reason to keep using the NSW set, they should be using the new background loop.

Judging by what happened with the NSW graphics appearing nationally they don’t seem very competent on that front.

I think the reason why they’re using the Sydney set for NOON NEWS is because when it was relaunched back in 2014 (along with the new sets and the schedules and presenters), it was assigned to the Sydney set. After the new set was introduced, I think they wanted to leave her there. But yes, I do agree with you, that aqua coloured newsroom was so 2014. Why not use the midday Sydney loop instead? If you’re standing in front of the newsroom backdrop it looks like you’re presenting a news update instead…

And yes, even if Joe has presented from the new set once or twice, I still don’t get why they have to leave him in Studio 32. That’s not where he presented Mornings since the program’s launch.
