ABC News (Channel)

Jeremy was on ABC News 24 for Brexit coverage this afternoon, actually.

Two and a half hour edition of The World for Brexit tonight.

###Planet America Live Shows

Friday 22 & 29 July at the earlier time of 8pm (AEST) on ABC News 24

The speeches, the flags, the bands, the bunting – all the sights and sounds of the circus that is an American political convention…and then there’s Donald Trump!

The Republican and Democratic parties are about to nominate their contenders for the job of president of the United States. Is it an odds-on bet there’ll be a Trump/Clinton showdown?

Planet America will be following every twist and turn in the ride and in conjunction with the US Studies Centre we’ll be marking the Republican and Democratic Conventions with two very special one-hour live events.

Recorded at the Giant Dwarf Theatre in Redfern in front of a live audience (to be played later that night on ABC News 24 and iview at 8pm AEST), hosts John Barron and Chas Licciardello will be joined by a panel of US political experts to dissect the outcome of the Conventions and what it will mean for the presidential race.

First we plan to bring a little bit of Cleveland to Redfern on Friday July 22 with Planet America’s ode to the Republican Convention. The fun starts from 12pm with competitions, analysis, Q&A sessions and more red, white and blue than a sane person can cope with. To be part of the live audience click here.

Then on Friday July 29th, we’ll do it all again, Hillary-style with a bit of Philly magic in Redfern as we mark the Democratic Convention. To be part of the live audience click here.

The Planet America one-hour convention specials will air Friday 22 & 29 July at the earlier time of 8pm (AEST) on ABC News 24 & iview. Replayed Sunday nights at 10pm (AEST) on ABC News 24 & iview.

Happy belated birthday

Which also means their current graphics package is 6 years old and counting.

The channel will broadcast live the commemoration of the centenary of the Battle of Pozieres from northern France at midnight (AEST) tonight. It marks 100 years since the first major Australian battles of WWI on the Western Front.

There have been some tweaks along the way though, most notably in Early 2014.

Personally, I think the current ABC News/ABC News 24 graphics have aged rather well although of course I do think it would be nice to see a refresh at some stage.

Hang tight. We’ll be refreshing things a bit later this year. We’re working on it as we speak.

If “we’re working on it” means they’re actually working on it rather than paying an external consultant like they did 6 years ago, it will almost certainly be ballsed up.

They’re being done externally

ABC News Special: Andrew Olle Media Lecture

Waleed Aly presenting the 2016 Andrew Olle Media Lecture will be televised on ABC News 24 on Saturday at 2.25pm AEDT.

Fiona Ellis-Jones from News Radio is presenting this afternoon. She looks much younger than I was expecting!

The clock on ABC News 24 appears to be malfunctioning… It’s currently stuck on 23.02 in Victoria when local time is 14.48.
