Media Bites has released their response video regarding their little blooper post of Natasha Exelby going viral around the world: https://youtu.be/5L2x-PDf8Vw
I think the reason why the clock is squished is the original graphics weren’t designed for safe areas (or they were, but the flipper & clock were afterthoughts):
The designs from the BDA Creative page don’t follow the safe areas:
This could be fixed by shifting all the graphics up (I also made the flipper text bigger so it matches the size of the old flipper & shrank the headline text):
I get they’re going for simplicity, but the colour palette, the multiple fonts, massive text, and squashed clock just end up looking like an (average) mock. Kind of reminds me of a movie or TV show that needs to incorporate news graphics and does a cheap rip off job - works for what it is, but just doesn’t look polished.
I don’t get why the top super needed to have anything other than breaking news, it clearly says everything you need to know in the one below it. The additional wording adds so much more red than what is needed and makes it look cluttered.
I don’t know why they have the shadow effect on the text given everything else seems to be minimalist. Overall it is a mess - the red is far too bright and the lack of a flipper means there is a huge wasted white mass at the bottom of the screen.
It’s not much of a news presentation without a news ticket. Such long stretches between news to have to wait to find out the morning’s main stories - better to switch to another network and read their ticker.
