ABC News (Channel)

They kind of need it to tell people what’s going on with the strike, plus the emergency updates that are on the rotation.

Typo on the ticker

I’ve re-read that five times and still couldn’t find any typo with it.

“11AEDT”? Spacing stuff, that’s fine. Forgivable.

11am or 11pm? :stuck_out_tongue:

Live news at 12pm.

Same… what’s the typo?

Does the strike start at 11am or 11pm? I know I am being pedantic.

it started this morning at 11

Somewhat cleaner opt-out of the weather this hour, cut off a few seconds in.

The cut-off should have been the ending sting in the bulletin, but I understand managing playout is difficult at this time.

It depends on how the BBC gives the signal that an affiliate can opt out, ITV did have the visual cue bars at one stage and still use it occasionally. The BBC domestically are the same.

If it’s a digital signal then it’s done automatically at MediaHub but it looks like someone at MediaHub is opting out manually

Is it still showing BBC world news? It’s just that ABC iView live stream is showing a national press club address which I’m assuming is not live.

BBC all day except NPCA and Parliament, both of which are also live.

Just that normally there are no graphics (“live” indicator or super), so it isn’t out of the norm today.

Usually networks run on a 24hour clock internally. So if it was PM 23:00 would likely have been the thought process behind it.

Most of the world defaults to 24 hour time, it’s really only the US, Canada and Australia that don’t.

Amusingly a lot of people from the US call it “military time”

90 second statements from House of Reps now on 24 which isn’t broadcast normally.

The ABC has always used a 24 hour clock. 24 hour time is very common in Australia.

Why do we roll out that derogatory term whenever something is slightly misspelled?

In ABC’s official schedule the day runs from 06:00 to 29:59 with the date not changing until 6am. so everything before 6am is the day before which takes some getting used to!

And they will continue to show parliamentary proceedings following Question Time until 4pm AEDT according to the schedule.
