The early show that was clearly pitched at six year olds?
It’s not tradition. It’s lazy journalism clickbait.

I expect nothing but more degrading articles by Newscorp to try and destroy the ABC. It’s their mantra, every year, every new year! Same shit, by some shit News Corp clickbait bullshit.
Nearly two million Australians across the country turned to the ABC at midnight to celebrate the biggest night of the year, New Year’s Eve.
An evening filled with music and celebration highlighted the ABC’s commitment to not only entertaining Australian audiences but also supporting the wider community.
Celebrations kicked off with The Early Night Show, hosted by Rhys Nicholson, Casey Donovan and Gemma Driscoll, bringing all the family-friendly fun in the lead up to 9pm Calling Country Fireworks.
From 9:15pm, hosts Charlie Pickering and Zan Rowe presented the live concert from the Northern Broadwalk of the Sydney Opera House, featuring a stellar line-up of performances from Tones and I, Ball Park Music, Vika & Linda, Dami Im, Morgan Evans and Tasman Keith.
The perfect soundtrack for New Year’s Eve was amplified at 11pm, as we celebrated the upcoming 2023 Sydney WorldPride Festival with a special segment hosted by Jeremy Fernandez, followed by show stopping performances from Electric Fields, Courtney Act and Casey Donovan.
As the clock struck midnight, Sydney’s iconic fireworks beamed around Australia and the world.
Director of ABC Regional & Local, Judith Whelan said:
“It’s been wonderful to bring all Australians – and people all over the world – the iconic images of our New Year’s Eve celebrations on Sydney Harbour. No-one does NYE like we do – with live music, children’s entertainment and of course coverage of the magnificent fireworks display.
“I’d like to thank all the ABC staff who worked through the night to bring everyone every moment of the celebrations – across ABC TV, ABC iview, on social media and on ABC Radio – and once again, provided audio description of the fireworks for people who are blind or vision-impaired.”
ABC’s NYE TV broadcast coverage peaked with over 1.7 million tuning into either ABC or ABC NEWS for the midnight fireworks last night. A total of 685K live streams were recorded via ABC iview.

A far cry from a decade ago
Newscorps should save on paying Christmas penalty rates to its puppets/reporters & just start bagging the coverage now.
We all know they will, no matter what the ABC do.
Don’t worry, they’ve already written and scheduled them, just need the intern to use a burner and make an X post on the night and paste it into the article!

Harry Connick Jr a late inclusion for Sydney NYE 2023
Star power for Sydney NYE 2023 with Harry Connick Jr (Australian Idol Judge) to perform before the first fireworks show for the night.
This year marks 10 years since ABC’s first NYE coverage which wasn’t well-received at all by viewers then-hosted by Lawerence Mooney and Stephanie Brantz.
I remember the one hosted by Julia Zemiro where she was heard saying “Thank God” at the end.
2014/15 “Thank God” as the credits rolled
Sydney NYE 2023 will be shown live on ABC Australia across Asia-Pacific region at 8.30pm AEDT tonight.
and Harry Connick Jr joining cast for tonight’s show.
When should we expect the first News Corp article panning the ABC coverage?
Already written, just needs a few social media quotes to be added.
We should also look out for one from the DM with quotes from Media Spy
Terrible terrible display yet again! Charlie of course the usual PC garbage ruining the family-friendly event. Harry Connick Jnr sounded dreadful and clearly didn’t want to be there and constant references to indigenous culture rammed down our throats again!!!
You may be joking but are you wrong? Isn’t it like that every year? You literally just described the show. Except this year there’s an actual name performer that people know.
Oh, dear. Here we go again.
