Not sure where this fits but ABC Grandstand on Twitter has rebranded to ABC Sport.
Has been discussed in Digital Radio - renamed on DAB+
Ta. Thought I’d saw it somewhere and couldn’t place it.
Looks the Grandstand brand has been turfed then??
The radio show on ABC Local Radio is still called Grandstand although it could change.
Heard both over the ABC Sport and ABC Grandstand over the weekend.
I don’t see the point of change it from Grandstand , to sport , as ABC Grandstand has a real nostalgia about it, feels unique to the ABC, like you are in the grandstand watching.
Perhaps the ABC wants brand separation between the Grandstand program on Local Radio and their actual sports coverage/station?
ABC Illawarra does mention Braidwood on its local weather updates. Apparently, its signal does get into there quite well.

Don’t know if I’m up to being the devils advocate…but he does have a point on the Facebook and Twitter side. Could at least podcast the Upper Hunter program, as that’s the only point of difference between 1044/FMs and 1233.
At least there is a ABC reporter up in the Upper Hunter. Could revert back to the old days of being based in Newcastle, as it was before the 90s.
Same for ABC Katherine in the Top End - https://www.abc.net.au/radio/katherine/live/
How embarassing.
Grand National is returning to ABC Victoria 10-12 today with Catherine Murphy and Tony Armstrong (who has been cohosting with Saamy J for NAIDOC week) replacing Lehmo and Emma Race who hosted last Summer.
The ABC ought to get caller Greg Clark for Wallabies/Super Rugby matches in NSW next year.
National Sunday evenings presenter Rhianna Patrick has announced she is leaving the ABC.
Haven’t they just been taking Rugby.com.Au calls for the last couple of years anyway. Maybe not for tests but certainly at Super.
Jumping to IndigenousX to head up the org’s audio and podcast development
Some major tech issues this morning affecting ABC radio stations with multiple stations suffering distorted audio for over an hour;
Sammy J made reference to this morning’s Melbourne breakfast being heard around the country, i guess that’s why!
Trusted voices return to ABC Radio Perth in 2021
ABC Radio Perth’s Weekend Breakfast presenter Christine Layton moves into weekday Afternoons next year, taking over from Gillian O’Shaughnessy who announced her departure recently, after 10 years presenting the show.
Christine said she had “extra-large” plans for the show next year. “ Afternoons arguably has the best audience so, pandemic-permitting, I want to take the ABC van out into the wild to meet as many of you as possible.”
Next year will also see the return of Breakfast co-hosts Russell Woolf and Nadia Mitsopolous, but with their own shows across the Breakfast and Mornings timeslots. Early risers will be able to start their day with Russell from 5.00am each weekday followed by AM at 8.05am and a Mornings show presented by Nadia from 8.30am to 11.00am.
Veteran broadcaster Geoff Hutchison returns, driving you home from 3.30pm each weekday afternoon.
ABC Radio Perth Manager Sarah Knight said she was thrilled to have Christine Layton move to Afternoons. “Christine was ‘discovered’ by Russell Woolf eight years ago when she delivered some of our funniest Main Roads updates ever heard on the station. Christine will now bring her sense of fun and quirky humour to our afternoons.”
Knight said the decision to start Breakfast earlier and give Russell Woolf and Nadia Mitsopolous their own distinct shows was made to give audiences a more seamless flow through the morning with two voices they know and love. “Russell will continue to entertain listeners with his unique insights into the daily life of Perth and as always, accompanied by his own great choice of music to start the day.”
“Nadia brings to Mornings her 30 years of experience as a reporter in Perth. Each day she’ll take an incisive look at the state-wide agenda, speaking to those making the news and covering the breaking stories.
Although the one-hour Focus program, presented by Jessica Strutt, will not be featured within Mornings next year, Knight said Jess’s fans had not heard the last of her on ABC Radio Perth. “Jess has done an outstanding job presenting Focus over the past two years and we are keen for her to continue to have an association with the station into the future.”
Jess said it had been “lovely to share some time together” over the past two years. My warmest thanks to you, the ABC listeners and viewers, who also tuned in over a number of years as I brought you the latest on WA politics. It’s been an absolute privilege.”
Early Mornings presenter Barry Nicholls will start the year filling in on Overnights.
All of ABC Radio Perth’s other regular programs, including Conversations presented by Richard Fidler and Sarah Kanowski, Australia All Over , presented by Ian ‘Macca’ McNamara and Nightlife, presented by Phil Clark and Indira Naidoo return in 2021 along with the station’s regular line up of news and current affairs of AM, The World Today and PM.
The station’s 2021 line up returns on Monday 11 January, and will feature a new Saturday Breakfast presenter, who will soon be announced.
