Matt Preston is hosting ABC Melbourne breakfast from Monday, September 21, while Sammy J is on non-ratings break. Matt would be on the air “for a few weeks”.
Ali Moore is filling in for Virginia Trioli on mornings on the same day.
Agree they could definitely promote RN or Double J etc in regional Qld instead of ABC Brisbane. But being originally from regional Queensland myself I think there is a market for the people in regional areas who are keen to be more in touch with the capital. Part of that is because Queensland is so decentralised. The Brisbane breakfast show is a different “type” of show than those provided in the regional areas and some people don’t connect with the ABC regional shows. My father lives in regional Qld and listens to RN or NewsRadio rather than the local ABC. I think younger ABC liseners in the regions would connect more with the Brisbane breakfast show than their local show - it’s a whole different vibe.

Would love to hear the rest of that bulletin if there’s a way!
Wow.
Did they also win an award for their social media gaffe during the fires when a story from that year about hazard reduction was criticised and was too much for their glass jaws?
Here is a great ABC local radio story, where you’ll only ever hear of professionalism and integrity; the cherished broadcaster of the Upper Hunter, Mike Pritchard:
Was Mike the first on air in Muswellbrook/first local programming in the former child health clinic?
No it did not. That’s a fake. Majestic Fanfare was not used by ABC news until 1952. It was never recorded anywhere until 1943. And as if they would ever play a version that went for that long.
Fake news. Literally!
Proof?
Google it.

ABC Radio website, updating arrangements post - 7.45 news, claims
A ten-minute bulletin can be heard live at 7.00am, noon and 5.00pm
News on ABC Sydney and RN at noon were both 5 minutes. No midday news (as usual) on Classic.
Interesting.
It’s under the subheading for “On the ABC listen app” - not under radio broadcast.
Thanks, I missed that - it could be better laid out. I’ve since discovered that News Radio appears to carry these ‘extended’ bulletins.
Update on Karen Tighe’s condition from her husband
That’s one voice that will be missed over Summer. Every weekend at some point we’d be in the car and listen to Karen on Summer Grandstand. I hope the recovery is going well. It would be a tough time for all with recovery taking so long.
The ABC Radio website is not working at the moment, seems like many people wanted to hear Daniel Andrews’ press conference at 12.30pm AEST today about changes in COVID-19 restrictions in Melbourne.
Wouldn’t people just watch it, not listen?
So I know I’ve said it before but far out Macca needs to go. First thing I heard this morning when I woke up was him banging on reading from someone else about how daylight saving should be banished forever from everywhere as well as saying incorrect things as facts.
So, after having had enough of his bitching twice a year for around 3 months either side of daylight saving (so pretty much the entire year) I thought I’d send him a text because I didn’t want to call and argue with him. Guess how long it took to find an SMS number? I didn’t! He must be the only ABC program without an SMS number which I guess shouldn’t surprise me because up until only a year or two ago they were still getting “stacks and stacks of faxes”.
Anyway, after trying to work out how he spells his email address, the completely professional gmail one I took my chances and sent an email which because he didn’t agree with he read in his typical disinterested condescending tone as though everything I was saying was false. Even when I corrected him about how Tasmania had been a month ahead for the 90’s and early 2000’s he still “corrected” me by saying it was about 6 weeks. Unless he’s managed to cram some extra days into October, I’m still right.
After agreeing with all the people wanting to banish DLS forever everywhere he also got quite defensive towards me when I said how well it works in Tasmania and Victoria and started backpedaling about how it should stay for places where they like it but clearly there are people who don’t like it in all the states who have voted against it.
So, I’m going to have to remember to turn off the radio about 5:30am next Sunday because he’s obviously going to be a nightmare about this again. He really does need to retire.
