Didn’t they stop doing that?
Always wondered why they don’t give the phone number as 1300 ABC 774.
That’s why so many ABC stations have a 222 in their number. It translates to ABC on the phone’s keypad.
Only on Saturday between 12pm and 10pm, Sundays between 12pm and 6:30pm, and sometimes on public holidays, or summer weekend mornings during test cricket season - they still run split programming during every other time there is a sport event that airs on local radio.
Pickering on TGIF tonight making jokes comparing One Nation voters to Nazis.
The Avi incident is so weird to me because Pickering doesn’t actually seem to be that right wing?
I would’ve thought that was off limits.
As talkback or news or current affairs? Yes
As ‘comedy’? It’s complicated.
He should give TGIF to someone like Sammy J. He can’t host a live quiz show and is not quick witted enough. I find TGIF very uneven and awkward at times with his interactions with other comedians and the live audience. Sammy J was a master of bouncing off people when he hosted breakfast.
That way Pickering can focus on sharpening up his radio broadcasting/drive show.
Get rid of TGIF. Return it back to local stations.
When Richard Glover retired, it should’ve gone with him.
It was another opportunity for the ABC to invest in the next generation of comedy talent, but they failed, again. Geraldine Hickey (who spent years on RRRFM) would’ve been a hoot.
I’d be surprised if Charlie is in the Drive seat next year, feels like he was a quick fill. Waleed would be better. Or if the TV hours aren’t working for Tam, move her there.
And I still miss Jacinta Parsons on Afternoons ![]()
I agree with you Jacinta during COVID was such a comfort to listen to and a great companion during isolation.
Tamara is a good suggestion. She was great when she filled in for Raf on drive. Hope she’s okay and is just on long service leave.
But I do know that once you get announced as a host they usually give you two years or so to find an audience at the ABC. so I am not holding my breath re Charlie being on air for just the rest of the year. ![]()
Why? Actual real life Neo Nazis have pledged their support for One Nation the day Pickering made those remarks.
Unless something catastrophic occurs he’ll be there. He’s mentioned he has a contract for at least two years after the Yemini gotcha moment made the news.
Totes disagree! She was way out of her depth. Couldn’t interview, seemed disorganised.
Hosting a TV or radio talk show is a lot different to just reading an Autocue.
She didn’t cut the mustard years ago as a one time only fill-in on News Breakfast.
Just shift him to Australia All Over with Macca, create an unberable double act. 4 hours of car crash inducing radio. ![]()
Contracts can be terminated. Just ask Ms Lattouf who arguably did far less than what CP did.
But, then again,
straight, middle-aged, white guy. He’ll be safe.
Was it though?
She was talking about this on her podcast We Used to be Journos. She was saying the Pickering incident proves that they don’t actually care about presenters making public comment. It’s only an issue when that public comment is stirring up trouble, or in other words, pro-Palestinian. She played the clip of the ABC chair pathetically describing Pickering’s comment as “a little bit on the hop, and a little bit not.”
ABC Brisbane is hosting their annual open house as part of the Brisbane Open House on the 18th of July. If you’re a Brisbanite then this may be for you.
I went last year, well worth it to go.
Considering going again ![]()
Does anyone else think the ABC want One Nation to be popular?
I feel like on 3LO at least they are constantly poking at this topic and implying it, trying to plant the idea. Because it gets clicks maybe? Bizarre when they supposedly have a left wing bias.
I find it ridiculous and am really sick of hearing about it to the point where it’s making me want to stop listening, similar to their flogging of AI related topics.
Maybe the thinking is, having a distracting clown like “opposition” to talk about all the time means the heat is taken off actually scrutinising Labor
