Today’s ABC Melbourne breakfast is being broadcast across regional Victoria, according to a voiceover at 7.11am. Not sure why.
They played the wrong sting - the regional stations are either getting their usual program, or are sharing a program with another region.
Melbourne is only airing in Melbourne.
Zach Mander on ABC Brisbane tonight, bit of a surprise!
I believe Zach & Dom now work individual shifts on ABC Brisbane now
Went to bed a few nights ago, just before midnight. Philips boombox tuned to ABC Newsradio. That hours of programming had just finished, where I was in full expectation of the midnight news with Andrew Coulloupas, when suddenly…
"This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… This is RNAU5 Melbourne standing by… "
This went on for quite a wile, maybe an unscheduled sporting event was about to take place, or that some massive disaster has just started happening. But no, just somebody screwed up and yeah, it was actually quite funny.
Former ABC Brisbane presenter and producer Vicki Martin died on February 2, aged 59.
Vicki was a friend to many, mentor to colleagues and intrepid traveler. Her goal was to visit 60 countries by 60 and had already exceeded that, as well as most every corner of Australia.
Spencer Howson has posted photos from Vicki’s funeral on his Instagram.
I’ve noticed a more than a few hiccups occur in the past year on Local Radio and they always seem to occur around the news.
Presenters for some reason keep getting cut off by the news theme, that’s happened quite a bit though seems to have tapered off now.
Dead air seems to be quite common theaedays, a few weeks ago between the end of Australia All Over and the news at 10am there’s a throw to the Sunday Morning presenter with an underlay track, well let’s just say there was around 90 seconds of underlay track but no presenter.
The closest which came to what you’ve mentioned was when I was driving home one night and had the radio on Central Victoria when instead of Nightlife’s throw track, the News Radio weather sting played and came around a second of Andrew Coulloupas reading out the national weather before abruptly cutting to Suzanne Hill.
There’s also the inconsistenies, some nights the pre record weather would be a national forecast, others a state forecast and one night I heard a regional only forecast!
For comparison, I’ve never heard any automation errors at Nine or even Macquarie
That’s because many presenters these days don’t know how to time out the hour. Or can’t read a clock!
Or probably love the sound of their own voice and will keep going until the hard switch to news. ![]()
What time is ABC Perth Switching to FM on the 23rd
Interesting I haven’t heard of the exact time of the switch.
You can join the discussion on the FM switch at this thread
Note - special programming all day that day as part of the switchover.
New statewide ABC regional breakfast program for WA
The ABC have launched a new Statewide Regional Breakfast hour for Western Australia, commencing March 3 and airing weekdays from 5am. The program, hosted by…
From March 3, tune into the ABC’s new Statewide Regional Breakfast hour.
From 5am weekdays, Stan Shaw will broadcast across all regional stations ahead of local Breakfast programs.
Stan said he is looking forward to hearing from "corners of the wonderful and fascinating place we call home.”
After 6am you’ll hear news and Early AM, followed by the Rural Report at 6.15am before local Breakfast programming begins.
In addition, WA will also get a dedicated local Mornings program which will air from 10am to 11am weekdays across ABC South West WA, presented live from Bunbury by Chela Williams .
Bob Murphy announced on air this morning that Richelle Hunt would fill in for Sharnelle while the latter is on maternity leave.
Sharnelle would remain on air this week and next week before finishing on March 6. Richelle would begin her stint on March 9.
Update
Mary Gearin will host The Conversation Hour in Victoria while Richelle is on breakfast.
Bob & Sharnelle clearly (platonically) love each other, as someone who tunes in casually I really feel their chemistry is off the charts and they have what seems to me like a devoted listener base. It wasn’t long ago people were saying they don’t like each other at all and the show wouldn’t last. Best wishes to Sharnelle for her maternity leave, will be great when she’s back
Should’ve gotten Ray Hadley. If only for the LOLs.
I recall Rob McKnight saying they’d never recover from that incident.
Would had been a better option to drop the show from the Regional Local Radio Network and have the entire country carry Saturday Nightlife.
