ABC Local Radio

Wow. That’s bloody quick.

Is it national or is it just Sydney that has been having constant week-long competitions for tickets and VIP/hotel room stuff?

It’s stuff no one wants. I could give them a not VIP experience at my place for a weekend and they’d still try to claim it’s a prize.

The prizes on Sydney’s shows have notably gotten worse over the past few years. Gone are the days of a book and/or DVD, Gardening Australia magazine on The Challenge on Nightlife.

Craig gives away a tea towel for Early Bird Trivia.

Cryptic Crooning on Drive is a keychain.

Evenings Quiz is a fridge magnet (although the first caller gets a book).

I think The (Mighty) Challenge is now just a fridge magnet.

Overnights quiz is usually nothing, I think.

Related question, why do the quizzes seem to be all in the evening? I do like them, but it would be nice to have them throughout the day as well.

If the keying and/or magnet was a ABC Radio Sydney logo, I’d take that.

Nightlife version:

Yeah, nah. They look shit.

I want this as a keyeing. And magnet. And sticker. And coaster. And badge. And fuck it, put it all in a tote bag.

And if ABC Newcastle and Upper Hunter has this, I want thosr too.

You’re talking to someone who broight a ABC Pride bucket hat and pin at Fair Day a few weeks ago. And the pin replaced the exact same that I lost.

Weekend Overnights presenter Rod Quinn announced at the start of last night’s program, that he will be taking long service leave.

Sunday March 30th will be his final program, with Michael Pavlich taking over the weekend shifts for the remainder of the year. He says he will return to the ABC in the new year, and is not retiring.

Yes, there was a bit of confusion on the Overnights group with a link to a podcast that Rod was retiring. It wouldn’t surprise me if he did quietly during this time off but will be a big loss to the Overnights slot. Good to have Pav back though a little early from what his long service leave was going to be I think but when Trevor Chappell came back and Pav had been occupying his slot it caused quite the problem as the listeners have enjoyed both.
I don’t always like Rod but he does have a lot of people who do try to provoke him regularly but I do love the overnights periods as they often have some great discussions and I’m loving having Trev back too.

Back in the day, I seem to recall a $25 ABC Shop voucher being a common offering!

It’s like a list of Ex-FM and 3AW names.

Charlie Pickering will host Thank God It’s Friday from Melbourne Town Hall on Friday, April 4, as part of Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

God knows why they persist with Justin Smith. Unlistenable radio. Thinks he’s still doing an OB from a suburban Hyundai dealer for 3AW.

I’m genuinely curious: what don’t you like about him?

I don’t mind him, but haven’t listened a lot. Just bits and pieces here and there.

He’s gay, I’m sorry, he’s blind.
