Allan appeared in the studio at 7.10am today. She owned up to her government’s mistake by not consulting locals on the placement of Eltham copper butterfly sculpture. (The government had promised to install the sculpture outside the rebuilt Montmorency train station, near the butterfly’s colony, instead it was installed at Eltham station)
After the 7.30am news, Sammy J spoke to Anthony Albanese by phone.
Sammy J’s final show is now available for catch-up.
In the new year all Sydney ABC local radio staff will be expected to move to their new home in Parramatta
With Sarah Macdonald and Richard Glover having departed the station, there are now very few broadcasters working out of the new purpose-built studio. James Valentine and Craig Reucassel currently have exemptions, allowing them to keep working from inner-city Ultimo.
With the heavy cost of road tolls for staff who live in the inner city, on the north shore or in the eastern suburbs to drive to Parramatta, management has been giving commuters a one-off payment of about $1,300 to soften the blow. Management also has to bear the cost of a taxi home at night, and while Ultimo has a large underground car park, Parramatta does not.
In Adelaide, Spence Denny will be presenting Breakfast
In Hobart, Mel Bush will be presenting Breakfast
In Brisbane, Spencer Howson will be presenting Breakfast
In Perth, Christian Hogan will be presenting Breakfast, with Michelle Stanley on Mornings - afternoons slot will be national afternoons, before Paul Cook hosts Drive.
Guides either list the normal presenters (including those who have already said they are on holidays until the new year), or various presenters - will most likely be the national programs (with the exception of maybe Drive in some states based on previous years).
If I had heard correctly, Alice Zaslavsky said at the end of her Saturday breakfast show that she would present Christmas mornings nationally from 10am to 1pm. That would be her final show on Local Radio.
ABC Victorian Statewide Mornings presenter Jonathon “Jonno” Kendall has announced he is farewelling the role after three years to relocate to the Surf Coast with his family.
Collaborating with a team of content makers across the state, Jonno helped build the program to its current success since its introduction to local audiences in 2022.
Jonno was instrumental in increasing live audience engagement, thanks in part to his involvement in several outside broadcasts including in Bendigo, Morewell and Churchill, plus projects such as the Statewide Public Transport Special.
Jonno, who will present his last program on Friday 20 December, said it had been a privilege to host.
“I’ve loved my time on the show,” he said. “The Mornings team works really hard to reflect, educate and have fun with listeners every day.
“We’ve been rewarded by listeners choosing to tell their stories – sometimes really difficult ones – on air with us.
“I will be taking up a short-term role with the ABC in Geelong at the end of January. The house we’re moving into has a big garden and a chook pen so I might have to call our Mornings’ gardening gurus next year for some advice.”
Regional Editor Victoria Toni Hetherington expressed her gratitude for Jonno’s contribution to the program and wished him all the best for the future.
Statewide Mornings will return to air in January when an announcement of the new presenter will be released.
