Adelaide Talkback Gardening presenter John Lamb has announced his retirement after 57 years at the ABC, including 44 of those on the Saturday Talkback Gardening program.
Iām not convinced that Dave OāNeil, as much as I like him, is especially well suited to breakfast. I think heās a better Afternoons presenter with his laid-back style.
Iām noticing that ABC local mornings that start at 8:30 really need to jump straight in to traffic and weather instead of announcing which country they are broadcasting from (sometimes can be up to 4), a criptive brief of whatās coming up in the morning and then things we need to know which is basically an events calendar.
Letās skip the filler and bring the listeners priority information when they tune in at 8:30 for a traffic update.
If you donāt mind me asking, which station are you listening to?
They donāt do this in Sydney or Melbourne (i.e. acknowledgement of country at the start of the 8.30 session).
Albeit fair point about the filler stuff - IMO - as soon as AM ends, it should just go straight to the newsreader for the headlines, followed by traffic.
Sunshine Coast. No issue with acknowledgement but itās not necessary at 8:30 and like you said, should be straight in to headlines.
Must be a local thing as this morning was for both Gold and Sunshine Coast and they jumped straight in to traffic and weather.
You donāt really need traffic reports on ABC Wimmera etc.

Iāve been noticing promos and hosts have reverted to calling ABC Radio Melbourne as ā774 ABC Radio Melbourneā again. Has the same been happening on other stations?
Yep - also heard in Adelaide (891) and Sydney (702) - however, some programs in Adelaide still have āABC Radio Adelaideā
Iām hoping for a return to ā3LOā, because three syllables is better than ten when it comes to the name of a radio station
Related to the 100th anniversary?
The stars align for 100 years of ABC Radio Melbourne
