All your favourites are back on ABC Radio Brisbane in 2024

ABC Radio Brisbane’s favourite presenters are back in 2024 to take audiences through a big year for the city.

Audiences will start the day with Craig Zonca and Loretta Ryan’s familiar chemistry and feel-good energy as they return for Breakfast for a sixth year. The duo are excited for another year celebrating the city they call home.

In 2024, Steve Austin will move from Drive to host Mornings to set the news agenda on issues that matter to Brisbane. Steve will bring together the most influential minds locally and from around the country and provide analysis of local issues and a forum for discussion.

Kat Feeney is back hosting Afternoons in 2024 delivering light-hearted coverage of local issues which reflect the Brisbane community’s interests and concerns.

Drive will be hosted by Kelly Higgins-Devine and is set to be a fast-paced and fun local program that gives listeners a comprehensive summary of what has happened in Brisbane across the day while you make your way home.

Rebecca Levingston will make the move from Mornings to Evenings in 2024, bringing her incredible style of community connection to the new timeslot.

On weekends, Kate O’Toole is back to present Saturday Breakfast and Sunday morning and there will be a new local weekend sports show.

ABC Radio Brisbane Manager Anthony Frangi said: “2024 will be a big year for ABC Radio Brisbane. The next local government election will be held in March, and the Queensland state election in October. We know audiences want people they know and trust to explain the issues and engage them in the conversations about local issues.”

“We are live and local when it matters most and will be wherever our audience needs us to be. In 2024 you’ll see us out and about across Brisbane, tapping into the city and the events that matter such as Brisbane’s iconic Ekka. Plus, more opportunity to meet our much-loved ABC Radio Brisbane presenters.”

ABC Radio Perth in 2024

ABC Radio Perth in 2024 is an exciting mix of returning favourites and great new voices.

Nadia Mitsopoulos will continue as Mornings presenter for 2024 and Joanna Trilling will also be back to present Drive.

ABC Perth manager Danielle Benda said she was very pleased to have two such strong female voices on the airwaves in Perth.

“Nadia is a huge asset to us at ABC Radio Perth, she drives the news agenda and regularly breaks important stories that have brought about important changes in WA,” she said.

“And Jo brings a great freshness, vitality and intelligence to Drive.”

It was recently announced that respected Perth journalist and broadcaster Mark Gibson would present the Breakfast program from January.

Former late night newsreader Michael Tetlow will continue in his role on Afternoons, which he has been presenting since September.

“Michael has great charm, warmth and professionalism. He has a really good understanding of Perth and the State and is just excellent company every afternoon,” Benda said.

Current Saturday Breakfast host Roanna Edwards last week announced she would be stepping away from the microphone after juggling broadcasting and a full-time corporate role for the past three years.

In 2024 Saturday Breakfast will be hosted by Amber Cunningham.

“I am sorry to see Ro go, but I am delighted that one of our favourite producers here at the ABC, Amber Cunningham, will be stepping up to the microphone in her own right.” Benda said.

“Regular listeners will know how funny and clever Amber is and she will be a great person to spend time with on a Saturday morning,” Benda said.

Amber, who had a long career in television, has been working in radio production for many years.

She will commence on Saturdays from December 9.

ABC Radio Darwin in 2024

There are a host of new voices and returning favourites next year on ABC Radio Darwin.

Top end listeners will start the day with Adam Steer who moves to Breakfast following the announcement that Jo Laverty will move to ABC Radio Adelaide at the end of the year.

Adam will lead listeners into Rick Hind on Mornings. Rick’s ABC career includes stints in Darwin, Newcastle and Alice Springs as a sports broadcaster, presenter, producer and manager. He’s very excited to join the weekday team and bring local audiences the news, issues and conversation for a Top End audience.

Matt Brann will be back in 2024 for NT Country Hour bringing rural news and events from the Northern Territory and across Australia.

Liz Trevaskis is in the Drive seat for another year with Darwin’s best mix of news, music, and entertainment as you make your way home.

ABC Radio Darwin is excited to announce Jess Ong will return to the airwaves as host of Afternoons in 2024.

Jess said: I’m delighted to be back in the ABC team and doing the job I love the most….talking to Darwin about the things that matter to us.”

After joining the Evenings program in 2023, Dinushi Dias will leave the Evenings slot at the end of this year to pursue new career opportunities. Evenings will now be heard from Adelaide with new host Jason Chong.

Dinushi said: “I’ve loved the chance to work with a wonderful team at ABC Radio Darwin. Now I’m very excited to see what the future holds.”

Manager ABC Local Darwin Graeme Bennett said: “The Darwin line up will deliver the best mix of news, information and stories from and about Territorians across the day. We’re committed to ensuring Darwin audiences are served by a dedicated team of locals who know the Territory and care for its community.”

“I’m delighted to welcome Jess Ong back to ABC Radio Darwin to host Afternoons. Jess is a very fine broadcaster and a proud Territorian. I know listeners will very quickly make her show a part of their daily routine.”

Agree, someone at the ABC doesn’t know maths.

Wdym? Instead of 4 days it’s now 5 days. Each day is 20%.

At the moment it is 4 days, they are adding 1 more day. 1/4 = 25%

So it is increasing by 25%

More ABC cost cutting, enjoy your stale evenings show NT, delayed for half the year.

Is ABC Radio Darwin so short staffed that the evening show needs to be broadcast from interstate?

Given their announcement, I’d say yes.

It’s not a case of being short staffed but deliberate cost cutting in a small market. There was a period fairly recently when evenings were national under the guise of cost cutting.

ACT has always taken NSW evenings AFAIK.

I know NT is a different time zone (during DST at least), but I think it’s hard to justify a live and local night show for a market of that size.

it’s more sensible for evenings (and overnights and weekends) to be largely networked rather than local. What would 675 AM in Riverina have to talk about at night - “a tree fell over this afternoon in farmer Hughes garden”?! Excitement plus!
(joke stolen from my uncle who was stationed at an army base in Wodonga in the past)

On Grandstand yesterday, Karen Tighe had a long chat with her predecessor (and colleague) Tracey Holmes about the latter’s hosting of the show, and general media coverage of women’s sport.

Ellen has been flying in to Brisbane from Sydney most Fridays to read the Brisbane news.

Plenty of local talent they should be training up on the more lightly watched bulletin evenings.

Wonder why her on air chats included circumstances that were the complete opposite.

The Peter Goers show was very hyper local, so if they don’t keep that it’ll struggle. Which doesn’t play well if they play to air it in another jurisdiction.
