ABC iview the streaming hero for all Australians

image

Australians are continuing to connect to ABC iview, with the streaming service cementing itself as Australia’s #1 on demand free to air BVOD service in the first 29 days of the year*.

Over January, audiences embraced ABC iview’s compelling new shows including, the final instalment of the critically acclaimed political drama Total Control, heart-warming family favourite Muster Dogs, Julia Donaldson’s delightful animation Tabby McTat, the inspiring Grand Designs Transformations, the whodunit dramedy of Darby and Joan and adding calm to bedtime routines across the country with the Ninganah Lullaby.

This summer, ABC iview has even more reason to celebrate, with the launch of four live, digital pop-up streams, the only service in Australia to offer live streams completely ad free. Spanning different genres, the streams include all the episodes from some of our most popular shows, available on continuous loop. Audiences can dip into episodes of Fisk, Doc Martin and Kangaroo Beach while the Australian Story stream features a curated selection of episodes from the multiple award-winning series.

ABC Head of Programming, Acquisitions and Streaming Roberta Allan says, “We’re thrilled to see ABC iview continue to be Australia’s #1 on demand FTA BVOD service, free and ad free. With a strong content slate of new and returning titles, greater personalisation, improved navigation, even more binge drops and other exciting new initiatives planned, it’s a terrific time for Australian audiences to embrace ABC iview.

Dropping this month is the explosive political documentary Nemesis, the compelling new Australian drama House of Gods, the dating show with a difference Better Date than Never and the return of ABC weekly laugh fest with Hard Quiz and The Weekly with Charlie Pickering.

Is anyone else having trouble with the live channels where they all revert back to your local ABC?

For example if I click ABC Kids or ABC ME it shows ABC TV.

I can’t watch any other stream apart from the main channel.

iView now has a large collection of Hollywood films, in-line with the launch of ABC Entertains and some of the same titles appearing on there, mostly from Warner Bros. Also seems like they have rights for longer than a fortnight too. And with no ad breaks, great little deal the ABC have done there. They’re featured on the home page too and one is already “trending” family flick Fantastic Mr Fox. Not sure if they’ve been advertising it though.
When Seven recently had the Warners deal, it was signed before 7Plus (or then Plus7) really knew what it was and took off, so years after, they still did not have rights to upload any shows or movies to 7Plus, unlike the ABC with this.

7Plus has had a significant amount of movies for some time now too, also usually related to broadcast airings.

And we know SBS have a large and popular collection, also often on broadcast.

9Now and 10Play however still do not.

For some reason, ABC iView only has last night’s state news bulletin instead of the past 7 days of bulletins.

UPDATE: It’s not just the nightly 7PM news bulletins either.

ABC iView (at least on smart tv) has been given a refresh - looks similar to the new ABC website (especially the fonts).

According to a comment posted on TV Tonight (on the relaunch of ABC TV News next week), the ABC Australia version of iView app for Aussies living overseas, was discontinued at the end of June.

Thanks for your support! The ABC Australia iview app is no longer available but you may still be able to get your fix of Australian content on the ABC iview website.

Yeah it just doesn’t play videos geoblocked, but plays episodes of shows like MediaWatch etc. that are available worldwide.

Just noticed British sitcom Not Going Out season 7 from 2014 on ABC iView. Has this been screening on one of the ABC channels too or just iView?

The first few seasons were on 7 but they gave up on it. Surprised they didn’t try it out on 7TWO.

Not Going Out is currently screening new episodes on ABC Entertains at 11:50 am weekdays; also repeats in the schedule. Currently season 10.

Thanks @TV.Cynic. I had no idea it was ever on. I watched it years ago and always wanted to see more.

Thought I’d ask - noticed recently that the ABC Kids App is being lesser and lesser mentioned in their advertising, instead directing viewers to “stream it now in the ABC iView App” - are they phasing out the ABC Kids App like the now defunct ABC Me app??
