So no more Louis Theroux???

They better find another channel for all the other docos and shows then.

Some will probably end up on the main channel but would not be surprised if SBS or some of the commercial multi channels swoop in on anything ABC/ABC2 has relinquished

For lack of somewhere better to post this - includes two promos for ABC Comedy

ABC2 is now done. No fanfare, did show a slide saying that ABC COMEDY would return at 7:30pm and now it’s showing the ABC2/Double J slide (showing the incorrect time of 7pm).

I don’t mind the logo, but surely when it’s arranged like this the E and M should be switched. I just read it as COEMDY.

I like the graphics and presentation of the channel. ABC2 certainly needed a refresh in that regard.

Just a pity that they seem to think that comedy didn’t happen before 2010? The ABC would have the biggest comedy archive of all the networks, it’s a shame they can’t (or won’t) tap into it. I guess it’s a lot less labour intensive to focus on more recent content… and to focus on the “young people” I suppose

It’s worse when the ABC logo sits under the jumbled letters. It’s definitely COEMDY.

I still think iView has the best logo by far,

ABC News and ABC Comedy should be variations of that. The ABC logo above and the word News or Comedy under it. Simple and clean.

Really love the presentation they have gone with.

Mehhhhh. The presentation feels very Ten or Eleven circa 2012. There’s cheap and cheerful, and then there’s very cheap and kinda patronising too. The logo is messy and is at times way too big. Wish they’d have aligned comedy to the right of the Lissajous like they did with the News logo, which I feel is the best design. Current logo just looks goofy for the sake of being “hilarious”.

I’m a big fan of both the ABC and The Office/30 Rock, but I really doubt the public service benefit to showing these kind of shows during primetime on what should be the ABC’s second most flagship channel. To have the entire schedule dedicated to comedy feels like a cop-out; to have it also filled with American content which could easily be found on a commercial multichannel is a bit on the nose.

I’ll have to check out Ballard’s show though. Looks promising and I like his style.

Also seem strange to have that content promoted as “American Comedy Every Week Night”.

Some more elements of presentation from tonight

Comedy is subjective and also if they’re looking at people/production companies that they have exiting ties with, It’s like hearing the same jokes from your uncle at the Xmas party.

I watched a bit of Tonightly last night and it felt like it was a poor man’s The Weekly with Charlie Pickering which is a poor man’s Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell. Seems like a lot of resources would have gone into producing this show. A lot of money for a show watched by very few people. :worried:

The comedy show that followed “Kiki and Kitty” is a strange concept but gave me some good laughs.

Fair enough, but it’s rarely ever fair to judge a show of this genre by its first night.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart took years to develop its award-winning style. Trevor Noah has taken a while to get into the groove. When Stephen Colbert went to CBS it took him a year to find his bearings on The Late Show. Here in Australia, Mad As Hell had more misses than hits for the better part of two seasons before finally beginning to become more reliably funny (although some episodes still fall flat).

I’ll reserve judgement for Ballard’s show for another six months at least.
