Seven and Ten breaking into programming with the PMs presss conference.
Interesting Nine’s lack of coverage now, not even taking the PM’s speech. But guess it’s a tough decision with two live sports currently on - cricket and international rugby league.
I reckon Nine’s news department would be furious right now.
They’re effectively missing history being made and are the only ones not covering it.
Nine in Sydney and Brisbane ran a referendum results update, then ads and half time discussion during the early part of the speech so there was plenty of opportunity to take the speech. Brisbane even ran a news promo about how they cover news live as it unfolds ![]()
Nine has stuffed up for a second time now - the other being the car crash in Melbourne CBD the other weekend.
A prime example of why Seven and Nine should be running a news channel in 2023. We are living in a 24 hour news cycle now. Day and night. Weekday and weekend. They need to get with the times.
Strongly agree. Could come in handy around US election time next year.
And Olympics too.
Who knows what major news could break while 9 has Olympics spread over its entertainment channels.
Also worth noting that Seven in Sydney ran the daily 11:00am COVID updates on either the main channel or on 7two during the recent Tokyo Olympics, too.
I know this website is obsessed with that notion. However, one of the issues is whether such a venture would be commercially viable - especially in this day and age when more people are getting their news through platforms such as apps and social media rather than TV.
Just because (for example) Nine having a news channel would have been handy tonight doesn’t necessarily mean it makes sense for them to actually invest the funds required to set such a channel up, let alone launching it.
Not sure CWC (based off this week’s disappointing ratings) and IRL (going off previous) will be enough to win Nine the night or week either, obviously contracted, actually think the referendum coverage tonight will do decent, probably ABC first but Seven should do well with 6pm news, 7pm special and perhaps their press conference, although the movie is now a mish-mash and codings will be wrong, as well as the special late bulletin now blown out until very late (due to the movie being paused - unless they ditch it)
They better bloody not ditch it. I’m watching the movie lol.
What happens at the end of the movie?
So weird 10 and 7 scheduled movies and are no in rolling coverage.
Feels like there’s more coverage on 10 now than a general election.
A rare good move by 10 in this instance.
Not ideal for 9 news brand.
10s had election coverage in 2019 and 2022.
10 opted not to take the questions after the speeches but continued with coverage.
Seven showed the question period and have then gone to discussion and results.
This colour scheme would’ve looked great when 10 News First Breakfast was around.
10 has wrapped up at 9.51pm
