Thank god that shoebox was temporary
That looks fantastic.
This is definitely the best set they have had since the 2012 relaunch.
Only thing I can think of is having the ACA logo on that middle screen during the interview wideshot
Was it? Or did they just reconsider? Itâs obviously a significant improvement though.
Makes a world of difference. When I complained that the previous set appeared âcramped and claustrophobicâ last year I was told space costs money and anything bigger wasnât necessary. It made the production look cheap so Iâm glad theyâve come to their senses and decided to give Trace the digs she deserves.
My only complaint is it looks like a Saw film has been produced on it. Red overkill.
Looks much better, theyâve even been able to work that big pillar into the aesthetic and it doesnât really stand out as much as it does during Today Show.
Now that that part of the set is used than more than just Today, I wonder how it will age the set pieces by taking the couch out / desk in almost every day.
Looks great. Not sure why theyâve put a fake red light strip in the big pillar.
That is absolutely the best graphics ever! Looks clean and sharp.
If the Today set soft is in the same position has that desk, that is not a great ideaâŚ
My main two issues with the new A Current Affair.
#1: The theme music doesnât work particularly well with the titles. There needs to be a new/remixed version done at the first available opportunity.
#2: The content. While this is hardly a new issue with ACA, I donât think the best decisions were made with the stories available tonight. You could just imagine OzTAMâs Sydney households flicking over to ABC News NSW when Tracy told them tonightâs first report would be an Exclusive interview about the drug battle of an ex-AFL player most wouldnât have heard of, shouldâve lead with the Car Park Sting piece! And tomorrow night theyâre promising us to report on a house full of rats?!
Canât really complain about either the new set or graphics, but I really have to wonder why they didnât just introduce this stuff on Night 1 at North Sydney!
Also noticed the back wall stops short of the large pillar. Shame. Back hole there. Would look better if it extended further.
I think itâs to do with perspective, from a lower angle it works with the rest of the red strips around the top of the set.
That is indeed what theyâve done and itâs nothing new, moving set pieces in/out is common for a lot of studios but it puts a lot of wear & tear on them.
Donât wonder too much, they moved to a complete new premises and trying to do too much in such a short amount of time wouldnât have been a wise idea.
Set wise, would it have made much difference considering that ACA (unlike Nine News which was without theirs for a couple of months as it was transported to and modified at North Sydney) was going to get a new one regardless? Donât know how far in advance the new graphics were produced, but I would be surprised if work didnât begin on them while Nine was still at Willoughby.
About the only logical reasoning for Nineâs decision to delay the new look ACA until now is that there were probably less viewers watching in November compared to February. Even then, I donât think the target demographic of this show is overly invested in the On-Air Presentation, they just want to see stories about car hoons and neighbours from hell!
I highly doubt that this set change was planned all along. Theyâve simply come to their senses after realising how cheap and nasty the original arrangement was.
But thank god they did. Itâs far from perfect but this is the best theyâve had in a long time.
Looks much better!!
Great they finally have updated the graphics too!
Could be a number of factors really. Maybe they wanted to ensure today and news were bedded in and all sorted fully before adding another show into the studio.
Itâs not just a simple flick of a switch. Also possible they realised they needed a bigger studio for the show after the fact. It happens.
I quite like the new intro. I think it is simple and a nice homage to the old openers pre Tracy era, also donât have an issue with the theme either. Sure could be remixed but doesnât really need to be?
This would easily be the best set ACA have had in a decade. Reminds me a little bit of TT when it was coming out of Melbourne with Helen.
Agreed! Simple yet effective use of the screens and graphics for the space.
