This is different for the ABC. As mentioned above, it will air at 6pm weeknights, starting from October 28.

At this stage, Hard Quiz repeats will remain at 6.30pm. No mention what will happen to Antiques Roadshow repeats that are currently airing at the 5.30-6.60pm hour.

ABC has aired some weekly cooking shows before - from The Cook and the Chef, to Poh’s Kitchen (and Kitchen Cabinet which is slightly different). I think this is their first attempt of a weekday cooking show. Please correct me if i am wrong.

The Cook and The Chef aired at 6:30pm on Wednesdays IIRC.

Was back when there was a push for productions from the Brisbane, Hobart, Adelaide and Perth units. Many of them were slotted in the 6:30pm Wednesday slot. Out of all of them, The Cook and The Chef were one of the few that lasted for a few years.

Aaaah, there you go. Thanks for that re The Cook and the Chef. I didn’t watch it when aired back on the ABC, but do tune into it on SBS Food Channel (repeats), which do air weeknights. I just assumed it was weekly shows, airing weeknights, to fill the gaps. Oops. lol.

Is this just ABC “borrowing” from The Cook Off With Adam Liaw?

Well SBS do “borrow” the collection of The Cook and The Chef from the ABC to keep SBS Food running .

The ABC is thrilled to announce the premiere of a deliciously new nightly cooking show A Bite To Eat with Alice on Monday, 28 October at 6pm on ABC TV, with all episodes available to stream on ABC iview.

Hosted by renowned cook, author, columnist, radio presenter and long-time culinary correspondent on ABC News Breakfast Alice Zaslavsky, A Bite To Eat with Alice will focus on recipes that are simple and fresh, built around accessible and affordable ingredients that can be prepared at home to inspire Australian audiences to feel more confident in the kitchen.

In each episode Alice will be joined by a guest from all walks of life and skill levels including actress Pia Miranda, comedian Dilruk Jayasinha, singer-songwriter Anthony Callea and Australian food icon Stephanie Alexander, all with interesting stories to tell.

Alice will kick start each episode with a recipe inspired by her special guest. Then her guest arrives, bringing in one of their favourite ingredients for Alice to turn into something delicious, showing those at home how easy it is to get dinner on the table with ingredients on hand. Finally, Alice faces a challenge to change the guest’s mind about an ingredient they don’t enjoy or are unsure how to cook, or to help them with a food-related issue.

After almost a decade as resident Food Guru on ABC Local radio and ABC News Breakfast, host Alice Zaslavsky says: “I’m thrilled to be bringing Australian households even more inspiration in the kitchen and in life, welcoming some of Australia’s most interesting people into Southbank’s Studio 32.

This program’s pillars, of sustainability, accessibility, and authentic connection, will provide warm and wonder-filled viewing, weeknights at 6.”

A Bite To Eat with Alice continues the ABC’s proud tradition of producing quality cooking shows that remain useful to audiences to this day. From Maggie Beer and Simon Bryant’s The Cook & The Chef to Poh’s Kitchen, the new series is set to be become a foodie favourite.

Alice discovers Pia has an aversion to creamy sauces, she steps up to help Pia move past traumatic memories of a dodgy Past Alfredo by cooking her mouth-watering Mushroom Wet Fry Fettucini.

Alice welcomes comedian Josh Thomas with a good ol’ Australian cheese toasty. He arrives with a pile of prawn heads left over from his prawn dinner the night before. Alice shows him how to use them to make a tasty prawn head chilli oil, a condiment that goes with everything. Alice’s challenge is to change Josh’s mind on tofu. Will Alice’s 5 Spice Salt & Pepper Tofu win him over?
