7Food Network

I think the article mentioned 1.9 per cent of Seven Network viewing. So it’s the share of Seven’s channels. I think once you take into account all networks, 7food is below one per cent.

That makes it 0.5 ish… I guess that’s right…0.5 can be the difference between a win and loss I guess… depends on priorities

But how much does that 0.5% cost them? That Scripps deal wouldn’t have been cheap

The year-to-date audience for 7Food is just 0.6%. It’s possible that if it didn’t exist, those viewers would be watching one of Seven’s other channels anyway, so maybe there is no benefit to the network in the ratings at all.

Would therefore be interesting to see SBS Food’s YTD share and any decline?

SBS Food is rating 1.0% - last year it averaged 1.2%

A 4th channel also means more opportunities to advertise shows on the main channel, so not completely wasted. Also more advertising =more revenue.,. I guess that’s up to 7 to decide if the benefits outweigh the costs.
No doubt someone has done the research.

You’d think Seven would first try flipping the channel over to MPEG2. It seemed to boost the fortunes of 7flix.

SBS Viceland seems to have done fine though, but I know a lot of people who have TVs that don’t support MPEG4, which limits the audience, especially when those viewers can just watch SBS Food.

Still, Seven could probably better utilise the content on 7two or 7flix in a branded evening line-up - similar to what 9life does with HGTV. The channel just has too little content spread too thin.

So two points there. SBS Food is outrating 7food Network (LOL) but SBS Food has also lost ground (to 7food, hazard a guess)?)

No. I’d say it’s lost viewers to lots of other channels

Sounds like SBS Food is more Australian than 7food.

We already knew that from day one…

SBS Food features many shows made in Australia for SBS and ABC, whereas 7Food is pretty much Scripps’ The Food Network with Gordon Ramsay and a few Aussie shows in late night slots.

It’s mostly trash like Guys Grocery Games etc. No wonder people don’t want to watch it.

SBS Food has continued to show some programs from Discovery. BBQ Crawl and Worst Cooks in America are two that are on on this week. I’m guessing that SBS buy them individually despite some such as Worst Cooks being Food Network programs. (?)

Discovery bought scripps so they’re all the same thing now

SBS managing director James Taylor said at the 2020 upfronts today:

Does he know something about the future of 7food? Nearly a month ago I posted a link to the TVBlackbox story about Seven considering switching off the broadcast of 7food and having the channel streamed on 7plus. Could this be related?
