TV Week interview with Hamish Blake
Itâs become an absolute joke now.
Also worth noting that when you vote for the Logies now, you are forced to vote in every category to complete the entry. There are some categories where I donât even watch a single program nominated but I still have to vote for something for the others to be valid.
Much better when the public voting was done in only a handful of categories and many of the awards were separate peer voted categories judged on outstanding quality.
Yep - now the network PR people have manipulated to enable that their networks shows and personalities that they want to win have a higher chance, while those who actually deserve awards for quality now donât get the same level of recognition that they deserve.
Who is the biggest Aussie TV personality of the 21st century?
The inclusion of the genuinely glittering Hamish Blake, Julia Morris and Sonia Kruger is countered by the eye-raising additions of P-plater A Current Affair host Ally Langdon and the ABCâs Lisa Millar, who clearly got a guernsey because everyone loves the real stars in her fly-on-the-wall bush drama Muster Dogs. Surely there isnât enough people watching the ABC breakfast show to warrant a nod in the category of Australiaâs most popular TV personality, especially when the more established morning talent Karl Stefanovic and Nat Barr didnât get a look in.
Then you throw in reality chef Poh Ling Yew (albeit undoubtedly a great cook) and Home and Away darling Lynne McGranger and you start to see what we mean.
And includes:
And when was the last time a free-to-air Aussie comedy got made, let alone found an audience?
Havenât heard of Fisk and Utopia?
Or Austin and Colin From Accounts.
Also intentionally excluded the one and only Lisa McCune (there was a disclaimer in the story within John Woodâs paragraph about that), despite technically still appearing in the big 2000 season.
Bit of a dumb article. Rove won 3 times hosting a year-round variety show and award shows, McCune, as mentioned, John Wood, Asher Keddie and Hamish & Andy are arguably the biggest comic duo since Graham and Bert.
Shock horror: another product Seven touches turns to shit.
Canât Sevenâs management âread the roomâ? Quite a few silly and odd decisions of lately. Glad TvTonight called them out.
The current Logies system is in shambles. And Seven thinks its a huge honour and are proud of the awards, after a long period of dissing the same awards when Nine had themâŚ
According to Inside Mail, there is a strong chance that this year will be the last Logies, according to a high level TV insider. They say that the Logies are just not viable anymore, with no one wanting to pay for it, no one watching it, and the same network stars being recycled.
If the rumour is true, then itâs time to consider setting up a new TV award that can be regarded as the Aussie equivalent of the Emmy Awards, and ensuring it is broadcast live on TV across Australia (unlike the upcoming Logies which is shown live only in the eastern states).
We can always make the AACTA Awards our highest in Television (and Film) awards - that other television awards no one talks about.
At the last ceremony, there were 26 TV Awards, 15 Film awards, 6 Documentary Awards + 11 additional awards (for the likes of music, âaudience awardsâ) and Hall of Fame.
You mean the ones that air on 10? The ones that arenât full of commercialism.
7 & 9 love the awards for the ratings palooza.
If we lose the Logies somehow the AACTAs will somehow head down that route of commercialism IMO.
Split that into separate ceremonies for film and TV awards, similar to the BAFTA Awards, and hold them at different times of the year.
That makes it more ideal. Currently, the AACTAâs do have two ceremonies - a âindustry ceremonyâ (or a luncheon) for the technical awards and do give out small smaller awards there. They then have the big one - the main AACTA Awards a few nights later.
They can easily do a TV Awards night and the Film Awards night the following (or vice versa) if done correctly.
I donât think the industry would let the Logies die, but clearly it needs better oversight and ownership. Perhaps it needs some non profit and looked after by a consortium of Free TV and Foxtel and any other streamers who wish to participate.
Have a board like the Emmys and be transparent with everything.
The Logie Awards minus TV Week would also make it sound a bit less dated.
Thats not true. Ratings have been pretty good recently, Iâd thought.
If it was sponsored or be corporate branded like Football Stadiums or other special events would it still work?
Or maybe go to the level have every award ⌠The [Insert Brand Name] Silver Logie for [Insert Logie Award] goes toâŚ
That would be difficult given that although itâs largely outsourced, itâs still property owned by TV Week/AreMedia.
My post was talking about if the awards were at risk of going away from lack of support. I am aware of the current ownership.
