60th TV Week Logie Awards 2018

I’m talking hosts, whoever that was would surely have to be a personality aligned with Nine somehow - presenters from other networks are a given really.

Just echoing with what everyone else has said. The Logies are on too late in the year. Should have been in May. Not July 1, when half the year has already been around. But sadly, it is what it is this year. Hopefully it returns to an earlier date next year.

Am also not happy with the live voting just prior to the Logies. TV networks promote the living crap the way it already is. Their just going to double the living crap now, with the live voting. lol

This is the public’s chance to vote in the 10 “Most Popular” categories, which include Most Popular Actor, Most Popular Actress and the big one – the TV WEEK Gold Logie Award For Most Popular Personality On Australian TV. [/quote]

the 2017 Logies had 12 popular awards. Are two getting the axe? 2017 awards had:

  • Gold Logie; Actor; Actress; Presenter; New Talent
  • Drama; Entertainment; News Panel/Current Affairs; Lifestyle; Sports; Factual; Reality programs

Hope the stars have already booked their accommodation, 1st of July is also the day of the Gold Coast Marathon which attracts thousands from around Asia Pacific and Australia and most rooms for that weekend often need to be booked close to 12 months in advance. I got lucky and got an apartment for the weekend but won’t be going out of my way for star gazing unless someone is silly enough to run on the Sunday morning.

Voting officially opened this morning. I notice that Craig McLachlan is not on the list of mentions for most popular actor but you can still type his name in to vote. It’s similar for The Doctor Blake Mysteries in most popular drama. Nadine Garner however is mentioned in most popular actress category.

Looks like a small revamp with the categories.

  • Sports Program, Current Affairs program and factual programs awards have been axed.
  • Most popular comedy program has returned
  • Most popular entertainment program now includes shows from tbe sports, talk shows, variety and game show genres.

These changes are good. I was calling for all of these changes over the last few years.

They also went back to calling the voted categories “Most Popular” instead of “Best” which caused so much confusion with the “Most Outstanding” categories.

It was getting ridiculous that the Footy Show just won this every year in a limited category of nominees. The “Most Outstanding Sports Coverage” is enough for sport. Same goes for “Current Affairs” story.

Not sure about Factuals, although there are less of them on screen these days so could be fair enough. If they hand out an award for “Most Outstanding Doco/Factual” then that’s cool too.

Long overdue. :tada: :tada: :tada:

It makes more sense to have shows like The Footy Show in the Light Entertainment category.

One thing they still haven’t got right is putting actors in the “Most Popular New Talent” category when they have been on television for many years before.

Marny Kennedy, for example, has been on television since 2006, in some of the biggest children’s television series ever made: Mortified and The Saddle Club. Also A Gurls World.

She also starred in the Foxtel mini series Conspiracy 365 and was a guest in prime time series Rush. How can she be a “new talent”?

Both AFL and NRL Versions.

What are the 11 Industry Voted Outstanding Awards gonna be come May?

They haven’t announced those categories anywhere yet. We probably won’t know that until they officially announce the nominations, a few weeks before the awards.

This is the list from last year and there were more than 11. I imagine it could remain the same.

Gold Logie
Logie Hall of Fame

Silver Logie
Most Outstanding Actor
Most Outstanding Actress
Most Outstanding Supporting Actor
Most Outstanding Supporting Actress
Most Outstanding Newcomer
Most Outstanding Drama Series
Most Outstanding Miniseries or Telemovie
Most Outstanding Comedy Program
Most Outstanding Light Entertainment Program
Most Outstanding Children’s Program
Most Outstanding Factual or Documentary Program
Most Outstanding News Coverage
Most Outstanding Public Affairs Report
Most Outstanding Sports Coverage

Just wondering why April Rose Pengilly is nominated and she hasn’t even started on Neighbours on screen yet? also Matty J for his few appearances on The Living Room as himself? they kidding? They completely left out “Hoges” even though it was eligible. Yeah Josh Lawson was pretty bad but there were a few other actors on that like Nikki Osborne who played Delvene Delaney and Ryan Corr who could have been nommed.

No, she doesn’t even start on the show until 27 March. This is why extending the voting period to shows screening right up to the Logie Awards is a silly idea and unfair on nominees. Now if she was nominated next year, she might have had a chance.

These awards should have been for 2017 not for 2017 and a part of 2018. The cut-off date should have been 31 December 2017.

I am so glad that the Popular Comedy Program is back. It is long overdue. It was last seen in 1998.

I am glad that the Entertainment Program is now open to some sport shows that are more entertainment based than sports based (like the two Footy Shows). And the breakky/morning shows return to this category, after two years away and pushed into the Current Affairs award.

In a way, I am happy that the Sports Award has been put on rest. The 2 Footy Shows had dominated the category, winning 18 from the last 20 (The Dream with Roy & HG won in 01, and an AFL Grand Final oddly won it one year too). The NRL Footy Show deserved none of their awards, and I am a huge NRL fan.

For the Factual Program award getting rested, I kind of understand too. I think factual programs are now “filler programs” than anything else - eg RBT, Motorway Patrol, Bondi Rescue/Vet etc.

Re, the Most Outstanding awards: I’d imagine those will remain mostly the same as last year.

It was good when The NRL Footy Show won their first Logie in 2005 (for the 2004 season, arguably the last semi-decent year of the show) but apart from that, I completely agree.

Although if you ask me, neither version of The Footy Show has been worthy of a Logies win for over a decade now.

“It’s the first time the awards will be held out of Melbourne”- Vanessa O’Hanlon.

Did Nine News presenters in other markets make the same claim because it isn’t correct?

Indeed. Not only have they been in Sydney but one year the awards were even held on a cruise ship

Jealous that it’s not in Melbourne?
