Personal taste is different to saying he was dying on stage.
Lol. He did not die on stage.
Dave did well but maybe after three years the schtick is starting to get stale. Maybe time to mix it up. How about Wil Anderson next year?
or Julia Morris… come on!
I long for the days when the Logies was a “real” event and we had “real” personalities.
Shame we don’t really have any Bert Newtons, Graham Kennedys or even Andrew Dentons anymore.
And the event was rotated between the networks.
A lot of this is probably a reflection of the rise of the Internet as a TV platform at the expense of terrestrial TV.
Getting nostalgic in your old age?
I’m not sure that just wanting good television is considered nostalgic. Australian TV, particularly commercial TV, just seems to enjoy wallowing in mediocrity. The fact that ABC and Foxtel took out so many Logies just shows how much the commercial free-to-air sector is failing to deliver
It’s very hard to make money on older style formats, the venues you mention don’t rely solely on advertising.
Would I love network TV to have variety, drama, comedy etc again? Yes, do I think it would work commercially anymore? Probably not.
Dave Hughes is a very successful media personalty, and stand-up comic. His routine may have been polarising but just like Ricky Gervais it was taking the mickey. I found it fine, and apparently so did the audience in the venue.
2017 Logie winner congratulations video is a recycled version of the 2016 one.

Destination NSW has launched an ambitious bid to host the Logies in regional NSW in the next three years: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/the-logies-could-be-heading-to-the-bush-as-destination-nsw-lodges-expression-of-interest/news-story/450a35a132a16258c5c58b162ae1c6e0
Regional NSW - how random?
Yes. Very random.
Why hold in regional NSW at a smaller venue that cannot fit all of the television stars and crew (and sponsors)? Just hold it in a capital city apart from Melbourne once in a while (and not on Nine) to change things up
Or have enough hotels to accommodate them.
If you call getting shitfaced glamorous, then I have glamorous nights weekly.
