59th TV Week Logie Awards 2017

Almost forgot to mention that it was great to see Dannii Minogue and Tina Arena together on stage last night. It was funny to see them introduce clips of their performances on Young Talent Time and re-enact them too.

What would that have to do with the television coverage? Nothing.

The Australian has pointed out today that the Logies contracts with Nine and Crown ended with this year’s awards. The previous long-term deals were done when TV Week, Nine and Crown had the same majority owner - Packer. With Bauer having no allegiance to Nine, it will be interesting what changes will occur.

Thought you might find this interesting. This is what the live captioners thought Molly said last night. Being live, there is an inevitable delay from what was said to the subtitles. When I watched it back I was surprised that Molly intended to say ‘um, er’ etc - it was part of his advice on presenting (I think).

Yes, he was taking the piss out of himself.

Samuel Johnson on Studio 10 said that Molly just “did a Molly” and he should have realised that when he handed him a chance to talk. He was overwhelmed and probably would have said more if Molly hadn’t rambled on so long.

Denise commented that a full-time host/compare (she mentioned Bert) would have taken control of the situation and known when best to step in. She and Ita suggested that is a must for the 60th Logies.

Peter Helliar’s outstanding performance was timely with his special being shown on Wednesday night.

He spoke to Fitzy and Wippa about it this morning. He said that he was asked to be a presenter that night after Shaun Micallef pulled out at the last minute.

He had not rehearsed or prepared and then to top it off some guys were standing in front of the teleprompter after the break and he couldn’t even see it at the start

Yes, I heard that he replaced him. But, it doesn’t take away from the fact that the crowd would not shut up which caused him to try and speak over the top of them. I thought it was rude and port form by the audiance.

That happened after every commercial break. They are asked to sit down and shut up but they keep on talking.

The red carpet interview between Karl and Lisa and Kochie and Sam was great. Good to see the positive interaction, not as the media would have you believe things are. Isn’t Kochie friends with Lisa’s husband and Sam and Karl friends? Kochies response to Karl’s “I wake up with today” was “get stuffed” haha

Just our of interest… Does Seven and Nine invite their news colleagues in Brisbane/Adelaide and Perth? The Melbourne and Sydney News Presenters are always there.

It has been happening for years. On several occasions people have asked the audience to be quiet. An announcement should be made as the show returns from ad breaks to shut up.

The 9 Perth team were there (Tim, Emmy, Thommo & Sherri). 7 Perth usually attend however not sure if that was the case this year.

From my experience, there is almost always an in-house MC (either on stage or over the speakers) at these things whose job it is to do just that (for example, “in 20 seconds we will be going back live on TV so please return to your seats and stop chatting”). They are usually ignored.

Does anyone know if Kerry Anne Kennerley has finished her speech yet?

Dave Hughes better hope it doesn’t go to channel 7 cause he won’t be attending .

Dave’s opening remarks were cringeworthy. He died on stage. I nearly called an ambulance. Australia no longer has a Bert or Graham who can host such events with class.

He received plenty of laughter, not exactly ‘dying on stage’?

I thought he was neither funny nor clever. It was a very rough routine. And what was the point in dragging up Grant Hackett?

And he went way too long.
