58th TV Week Logie Awards 2016

I thought Noni Hazelhurst spoke for too long (the Hall of Fame segment went for well over 30min).

Yet, it was quite good and somewhat surprising speech.

The award was not for “Most well known Australian TV personality”. It was for Best Personality which had been formerly known as “Most Popular”. The award is for the TV personality who has most resonated with viewers in the past year. Just because you dislike him doesn’t mean that a lot of people don’t like him.

How did they do that exactly?

remember when you were banned for being a troll and snuck back in using your current username?

Let’s rename TV week logies to the channel 9 TV awards

Except they don’t win many of the awards. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Only 3, in fact.

I didn’t watch the show but reading comments all presenters where on 9 at Mo or about to be on 9

They have certainly been 9 centric the past few years. However, unlike other years, 9 didn’t fair so well when it came to actually winning Logies, thankfully. When Stefanovic, Cam and Blake won it was an absolute 9 Lovefest.

Didn’t say they weren’t. What a random rant.

How this has anything to do with Waleed winning an award I have no idea. But thanks for not mentioning, I have zero interest.

…and just because alot of people like him doesn’t make him the ‘Most Popular’ TV personality.

You’ve stated that in quotes as if I said that is what the award was called. Wrong. You raised Karl and I made about about WHY it was not surprising that he had won. I had referred to the basis of the award in my first post here, so there was no reason for you to pretend to be confused (or pretend to be correcting me) - “…Gold Logie is no longer handed out to the most popular personality on Australian TV.”

Look, my position is very simple. Like any award, or selection, or competition, or promotion etc. in life I like it to be done with fairness and integrity. Therefore, if the result of that due process is say Rove McManus winning this particular award, awesome. However, if you then asked me whether I give two hoots that Rove has won a Gold Logie…absolutely not. Carrie Bickmore…John Wood…Lisa McCune…Rove McManus…blah blah blah. Australia is tired of the Logies. In fact, they’re tired of Australian television.

However, when it is completely obvious a selection of individuals have been pooled in order to make a statement, ie. ‘look how diverse Australian TV is!!’, from which a winner is chosen which I feel has not captured the essence of what that award is about, I’m going to call it out.

It’s crooked. It’s rotten.

I like that the award has been won by someone who isn’t a stereotypical blonde wholesome Australian actress cough Lisa McCune but I hate the obvious bullshit with which has this particular award was given.

Well, you didn’t say a lot of things.

You didn’t say what day of the week it was. Or when your birthday is.

What a random post.

But what you DID say was that a number of individuals had simply won through social media campaigns. That is, don’t be surprised Firetorch that Waleed or Lee Lin are there, because others have won through similar methods.

I replied that those individuals you mentioned are ingrained in Australian TV culture much more than Waleed or Lee Lin are.

So, no need to be confused about random rants (supposedly a discussion that goes to the core of the integrity of these awards is random…) or things said or not said.

Well, I don’t even remember who you are. Have I conversed with you here before?

That’s where you’re completely wrong. There wasn’t a limited pool to vote from for the Gold Logie. It was quite clearly stated that any personality from the actor or presenter categories was up for the gold. The lists provided for those categories were made up of names the networks put forward for nomination and there was an “Other” field in case anyone was missed.

This is no different to any other year when the suggested names were shown on the website or on a page in a magazine where you ticked your selection. Thousands of people would have needed to vote for Waleed for him to nab the gold. You’re trying to create a conspiracy theory here based on incorrect assumptions but you’re wrong, wrong, wrong.

Well said, mate. Welcome back from the dark side. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

diverting the discussion to other awards of the ceremony now…

Why oh why do people keep voting in The NRL Footy Show for Best Sports Program? I love the game of NRL, but the show is painful to watch at best.

I also hope that this was the last time that The Block would win the Reality Program award. Ratings for the renovation shows so far for Nine have been disastrous and average number for Seven so far.

It’s great to see The Living Room win Best Lifestyle Program. Much deserving.

I am so happy to see Alex Dimitriades win Outstanding Actor for his role on The Principal, and am very happy to see Deborah Mailman win Outstanding Actress for her role in the Redfern Now telemovie. Two deserving winners.

That logie in itself is a joke.

She is long overdue a gold logie nomination. Secret Life of Us, The Alice, Redfern Now, Offspring, Playschool. She has been fantastic for a number of years.

I rest my case.
