58th TV Week Logie Awards 2016

When was that? I don’t believe that has ever been the case.

Well maybe not so much ratings wise but definitely content wise, the Logies had lost their way quite a bit for the first few years of the current decade. It’s only in the last year or two that we’ve seen a slight improvement, although there’s still a fair bit more than can be done IMO.

In future they need to stop with the banter between presenters. The only two who successfully pulled it off were Kitty and Pete because they went off script and are at their best when they ad lib. The others were cringeworthy at best. The presenters announcing the nominees and then showing clips was bizarre. Just have the presenters say “and here are the nominees” and throw to the clips. It would have cut down the show by at least 30 mins. The first 40-50mins were totally on song and things looked very promising. It all went downhill very, very quickly.

OK. So that was just your opinion and nothing was ever discussed. Well, maybe you should say that.

The truth is that the Logies always get criticised and there have always been critics that think they have lost their way. The good thing is that they often take the criticism on board and make changes along the way. Hopefully this will keep happening to keep them relevant.

Yeah, sorry if I didn’t make that clear enough. It’s certainly never my intention to mislead anyone!

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Karl is a very well known Australian TV ‘personality’. Waleed is no where near the same league as Karl.

Is he that Melbourne newspaper columnist? No idea who he is, I live in Perth.

Funny how a dislike of Waleed turns into a supposed liking of Andrew Bolt. What a ridiculous thing to say. Is that on the basis that someone is not allowed to dislike Waleed unless they are discriminatory like Andrew Bolt? Pathetic.

Agree with John Wood. However, with many many years on high rating prime time Australian drama, you could not say he was not a well known and loved Australian TV personality.

In fact everyone you have named is very clearly ingrained in Australian TV culture.

I’m jealous of the screencaps the smh puts up each day of his head? What are you even on about?

Well that means you’ve got no idea then. Gold logies are not for individuals who ‘do editorials well’.

No he didn’t. There was a ridiculous massaging of the category this year to ensure a winner from a ‘diverse’ background, regardless of their impact on Australian TV.

Er, of course it’s not solely based on ratings of the programme the individual currently appears on. All those individuals were Australian television icons in their own right already. Waleed - not even close.

Couldn’t care less who wins an award at a contrived, manufactured television industry awards night.

Not liking screencaps of television programmes presented as news on a website which I obviously visit for the content and editorials, means I have to switch to a right-wing tabloid? Right. Gotchya.

Sounds like something an angsty 18 year old trans emo girl would post on twitter. What the fuck does that actually mean in reality? Australians were scared to vote for a Muslim? Ridiculous. Get off the internet and maybe interact with the Australian public and you’ll see how pathetic that statement actually is.

Excuse me? How often has Karl trended Worldwide let alone Australian wide? I think Waleed is an extremely well known Australian personality with huge credentials in his field. It is naive and pathetic to suggest otherwise.

Hold on the frigen phone. I’d rather sound like an angsty 18 year trans emo girl than a racist, naive pig. I don’t believe I said Australian’s were afraid to vote for a Muslim. I think you have just suggested that… What do I mean I might let someone that can read interrupt it.

So just really awkward :stuck_out_tongue:

Honestly. I think that had more to do with the jokes that were winning the gold. In the last 3 years some very deserved winners have won.

Huge credentials in his field?

These aren’t journalism awards.

If they were, there are a hundred other journalists who have even better ‘credentials’ than presenting a show which spins news items into comedy.

Not thinking Waleed was the most popular Australian TV personality means I’m a racist, naive pig?

Hahahaha. Hahahahahahahaha. Hahahahahaha.

Never heard anything more childish in my life. That you give me that sort of reply, and then not clarify yourself what you actually meant that ‘‘your faith was restored in the Australian public’’, indicates I am EXACTLY right.

But you’re welcome to simply explain to me now what you meant.

I’m didn’t mention just his journalism credentials…

Perhaps you should read your comments above. That pretty much tops it.

True, your other statement was that he is ‘extremely well known’.

Which, after a short period on the Project compared with someone like Carrie Bickmore, who also had a long time on Rove, I dispute.

Even if he was - a hundred more other Australian TV personalities who are even more ‘extremely well known’.

Please. Just explain to me why your faith was restored in humanity last night.

Very simple. Go.

I stick by the fact he is extremely well known. It cannot be debated he is not. Top 15 every weekday night for an hour a day. Trended world wide on many occasions. I don’t care if people dislike the way he approaches his views but to believe he is not a well known personality in Australian television would be naive. I don’t know one person that doesn’t know who he is. Even my grandparents who don’t even know what channel channel 10 is knows who he is.[quote=“Firetorch, post:235, topic:561”]

It didn’t restore my faith in humanity. It restored my faith in Australians.

Yeah, probably. The years that Karl, Hamish & Scott Cam picked up the Gold Logie were an absolute joke IMO.

As I’ve said elsewhere online, I’m not the biggest fan of Walled Ally but at the same time I’m not completely upset that he won two Logies last night unlike others have been. Really we’re only talking about someone who won two publically voted for awards at a competition run by TV Week, not someone who won an Election operated by the Australian Electoral Commission or anything serious like that!

Of course it can be debated - that was my whole point for raising the ratings of the programme he currently appears on.

It’s not as if he was well known before hand either.

Top 15 - hahaha these days that’s the same level as the Bold and the Beautiful.

Trended worldwide - no idea what event you’re talking about here but 1) completely irrelevant and 2) stay away from the angsty teens on twitter.

You keep telling me everyone knows him…awesome. Good for you. Everyone knows Pete and Manu too.

Yeah I embellished that to highlight your silly remark. Tell me why it restored your faith in Australians.

If you are telling me he is EXTREMELY well known, and that he is generally awesome - doesn’t that er…kind of indicate Australians already know of, accept, and perhaps like him?

So, very slowly, explain to me why Australians supposedly watching Waleed in droves doesn’t restore your faith in Australians, but a television magazine voting award does.

Then go away

Where’ve you popped up from after all these years?

I said I don’t care who wins.

Not that I don’t care about the process by which the awards are decided.

Isis. Shane Warne. Just to name a few. His points got the world talking. Whether people agreed with them or not is irelevant. I know someone on the UK that messaged me asking if I knew who he was because it was put on the news over there.

I haven’t seen the Bold in the Beautiful in the top 20 in some time let alone the top 15.

Well you said how is ‘extremely well know.’ There we go. You asked that is why I said it.What else do you want… I don’t get what you are saying. At all. Its beyond comprehensible.

As for the faith in Australians its actually extremely personal. I have had a few experiences this year that doesn’t just have to do with Waleed Aly. And to be honest I cannot be bothered mentioning to narrow minded people.
