2SM 1269 Sydney

Totally agree here. Brent Bultitude is the best weekend talkback announcer (apart from The Two Murray’s) on Sydney radio. A real asset and a brilliant refreshing difference from the previous long-winded Straight Talk callers.

Mind you, this is at the cost of losing me as a 2SM afternoon listener. Once Laws returns I’d give 12-3pm to Dave Cochraine not Pete Davis.

I would totally here but the Two Murrays are not my cup of tea and am glad when the football starts, not that I am a great fan of that either.

In fact I don’t listen to 2GB at all on weekends.

The Australian reports Tunks is suing 2SM for two decades worth of lost wages, claiming he was told he would get the sack if he kept raising concerns with management.

He has lodged a Fair Work application in the Federal Circuit and Family Court, alleging the radio station — through director Bill Caralis — offered him “sham” oral agreements for ongoing shifts at a rate which dropped from $400 to $300 per shift, starting once a week on Saturdays and eventually three days a week on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Yeah is sad how older legends have these breakdown in relationships. I like to think that is more what people who are a lot younger do. Especially when you were on the show for 20 years and played with each other at the Bulldogs. You should know someone by the time you are in your 60s. Just goes to show we are all human and conflict can occur any time in life even with old friends or colleagues.

Who’s running 2SM these days?

Surely they can bring back Marcus Paul for breakfast. There was some actual momentum there with him onboard

I doubt Marcus will come back to radio. He’s working in a completely different industry now.

‘Time for a rest’: Golden Tonsils hangs up his gold microphone

After calling the airwaves home for more than seven decades, radio icon John Laws will put down his golden microphone, retiring just short of notching up 71 years on air.

The veteran talkback host made the announcement live on his 2SM radio show this morning, with his last day to fall on November 8.

“I think it is time for a rest,” Laws, 89 — whose marathon career saw him rise to be known as “Golden Tonsils” — told listeners.

“I’ve done it for a very, very, very, very long time and 70 years, is that long enough? That is long enough. And I think that I will just call it a day and call it a day pretty soon … probably beginning of November I might give it away.

John Laws to retire November 8 - RadioInfo Australia

I’m surprised he did not make the announcement somewhat ‘bigger’ than the audio here.

Any idea on who’ll replace John? Probably Dave Cochrane I’d say.

Does 71 years include the 4 years he was off-air following his last “retirement” in 2007?

89-71=18

I’d say 18 is the age he started working in radio. It wouldn’t be 14.

Yep. 18 at 3BO
