2SM 1269 Sydney

Perhaps a lot of audience sampling 2SM tonight,? No broadcast of the Queen’s funeral.

I know it’s not the prettiest, but it’s nice to see the 2SM website being updated almost daily lately.

Yes i agree, at least some small signs of progress. Now the website is up to about 2005 standard. Keep going 2SM webmaster!

Gary Stewart at night on 2SM … how pleasant and refreshing. Seems Graeme Gilbert has finally left the building. Gary is a great broadcaster and genuinely interested in his listeners … polar opposite of GG. Loving the change. May also help explain why 2GB nights with John Stanley had a sizeable drop this survey? 2SM now has a reason to listen at nights with Gary Stewart.

Isn’t he still just filling in?

Yes @thesub1, long service leave unfortunately. Agree with your sentiments @shanosV8, also unfortunately don’t think many are listening to 2SM to dent GB.

Bummer … i thought it was too good to be true longer term. If they were smart (?) BOG would leave Gary on nights to build an audience and knock off more listeners from GB. I don’t mind John Stanley but that show of his is so tightly scripted with this segment and that segment in the same pattern. Gary Stewart does good open talkback and plays a bit of music in between … perfect. And without the sniping attitude and biases of GG.

Whilst 2SM does not participate in the ratings and are included in the “others” category I have always had a gut feel they have more local listeners than we imagine particularly in the case of John Laws versus Ray Hadley. If this is true Hadley would have a smaller percentage of listeners than the ratings indicate. I particularly like the talk back programmes weekend afternoons and nights and the music segments…Just my thoughts

Knowing how Bill works, I doubt we’ll hear Gilbert back on the airwaves at all.

He’ll probably slowly push him out.

New 2SM logo? It’s now featured on their website.

It’s sort of “pick a font and pick a colour”

Looks like a retro style font. I gather this would be James Yelland as operations manager playing around with a visual editing program?

If only they did something to the Arial Italic “Supernetwork” part, it would actually look half decent. (That’s presuming they do something that doesn’t look worse, which… well.)

It’s funny… the original logo actually looked decent before they added the Supernetwork bit to it (even if the “More Radio” slogan sounded wonky)… and that was 20 years ago roughly. One could imagine that’s almost the only money they’ve paid for visual identity in that time (for 2SM at least). :grimacing:

(I mean, sure, it shouldn’t matter so much, as they’re a radio station, but this is not the year 2000 where very few have internet and all…)

I think this logo deserved more of a run.

Any idea on when/how long it lasted? Their “Sydney Moves” positioner lasted years.

The “Sydney moves” positioner lasted decades even; I’m not sure it’s even entirely out of their system yet, on radio at least.

I think that logo dated to roughly 1997 (or probably Christmas 1996 when it relaunched)? I certainly recall the TV ads with it when they were promoting Doug Mulray’s brief stint there. But it wouldn’t have lasted any longer than when BOG fully took it over.

Wow! So “Sydney Moves” came around when Doug was at 2SM Breakfast?

That’s a long stint.

Heard Geoff Field reading 2SM News today. Does anyone know how long he has been with them?

Understand it’s a new thing. He’ll just be filling in here and there.

He’s a thousand times better than 90% of the newsreaders on there. Yes, I know they’re just uni postgrads or on placement but seriously. When you heard one of them pronounce “four wheel drive” as “4WD” (literally as is), you have to wonder what edumacation they have.

Geoff had been in the Super Network newsroom in late 2016: 2SM 1269 Sydney - #35 by TV-Expert - although he left that pretty quickly to join 2SER as news director (which involved helping train up media journalism students at UTS, according to his web site). That role was made redundant at the end of 2021 (Geoff Field leaves 2SER FM - RadioInfo Australia).

I imagine if he’s back at 2SM - and it appeared he left in good enough terms in his original stint, to be back there - it’d be in a similar role and less to do with fronting the mic; sounds like training the next generation is what he’d been interested in lately.
