This is trolling Antony Green…
One more round surely from him
They did an interview with Casey Briggs on ABC Hobart Drive today. Casey will be doing the analyst if an election happens.
Not surprised - Antony did say he had long service booked following the federal election.
Yes, he’s the ABC"s chief election analyst now.
With the election now confirmed for 19 July, and SWM’s completion of the acquisition of 7 Tasmania (and other SCA TV assets) expected by 30 June, I wonder if we will see some sort of dedicated coverage on 7 in TAS on election night with network political reporters flying down - rather than the extended updates 7 Tasmania provided during commercial breaks of scheduled programming previously.
Hopefully they do. I reckon Seven should do exactly just that. Still keep the Tasmania Nightly News team on but also have network political reporters as part of the team for what will be Tasmania’s first State Election night coverage using the 7NEWS brand?
I reckon that’ll be the first thing Seven will do. Have the bulletin rebranded to 7NEWS just in time for the state’s big night of all nights, Election Night. Has the crew at 7 Tasmania been preparing the graphics and everything for the rebrand to 7NEWS Tasmania on (potentially) 1st July?
07:00PM ABC News
An extended 40 minute edition of ABC News Tasmania on Fridays ahead of the State Election on Sat 19 July. Guy Stayner presents the day’s news plus extended Stateline reporting and interviews on issues affecting Tasmanians
I am not sure SWM will be so quick to rebrand, the 7Tasmania Nightly News brand is very strong, arguably the strongest legacy media brand in Tasmania.
We currently get “live” crosses to network talent during the weekday bulletin, so it’s not like the network talent is something new and exciting.
I suspect it will be steady as she goes, using a proven formula from only 14months ago…
A lower level of involvement by me this time but the ABC election guide for the 2025 Tasmanian election guide is up and published here. https://t.co/1atnu7Kayu

The leaders’ debate is scheduled for Wednesday 16 July at 12.30pm AEST, and will be moderated by Sky News Australia Chief News Anchor Kieran Gilbert.
I wish they would bring back the ABC debate. If i remember correctly they stopped holding it because the ABC wanted to include the Greens leader so Labor and Liberal refused to attend.
I would say it’s a mixture of that + the ABC have seemed to have moved away from holding televised debates in recent years for state elections - last one I believe was for the 2019 NSW Election.
They still however, do have them on radio in some states (probably depending on if parties agree to one).
Excuse my ignorance but I just saw what was clearly an election advertisement for the Greens on ABC Tasmania at 6:29.
How is this allowed?
Wrong thread - this one is about the ABC’s international channel.
To answer your question though, its because the ABC gives up time for party political broadcasts during election campaigns. Each party gets given a certain amount of time if they can prove their mainstream support through opinion polling.
7 Tasmania will have a 30 minute election night special at 7pm after the news. But no wrap up show later that night.
Is the more than what they previously provided 2 years ago?
Less - for the past few elections, they had extended updates during the AFL breaks, then an extended bulletin after the AFL.
