I’m sure they’ll have updates through the night.
Disappointing news. You would’ve thought they would be covering the election on the night entirely, especially with the AFL now not being screened in VIC/TAS on Saturday nights at all until the finals commence under the new broadcast rights deal. Also given Seven are now the official new owners of the ex-SCA 7 Tasmania stations.
At least our very own @Leo_Puglisi6 and Co is covering the Tasmanian State Election for us. As Leo said at the end of this video, coverage starts at 6pm AEST on Election Night.
Kudos to @Leo_Puglisi6 for filling the void that 7 Tasmania will essentially leave behind. Again, appalling stuff from Seven.
Would a network (10 or someone) in TAS agree to air 6 News coverage on linear broadcast?
Perhaps WIN could use the available “New Channel Coming Soon” channel to relay it? Can somebody please tell WIN to put the 6 News Election simulcast on Channel 84? That would definitely make Channel 84 useful even if for one night.
I’m in VIC and I just got a YT pre-roll ad for Tasmanian Labor (the electorate is Braddon, the major cities in that electorate are Burnie and Devonport).
Has anyone else in VIC gotten this too (or any other Tassie election pre-roll ads for other candidates) all of a sudden?
A Liberal attack ad appeared for me on Kayo when I was watching the AFL over the weekend.
Bit disappointing the efforts from ABC local radio this campaign.
In the past ABC radio have toured the state to do OB’s from the major citys and smaller communities, in each electorate.
Hasn’t happened this time, maybe the ABC commodore wagon has run out of fuel and no one paid the fuel card for this election.
I get its school holidays in Tasmania, and the presenters will have family commitments but surly they could have found someone to get out and about to interview the masses…
ABC Radio will have rolling coverage of the election result from 6:55pm, hosted by David Riley - it will air on ABC Local Radio in Tasmania, and likely on ABC NewsRadio.
That means ABC Radio’s election coverage will follow the conclusion of the AFL match between Sydney and North Melbourne (4.15pm start).
ABC TV has extended its election night coverage by 30 minutes for a 10:30pm finish time.
There’s nothing to cover on election night in Tasmania. It’s not “appalling” - it’s simply not wasting resources on a panel show stalling for content for a few hours and having no conclusion.
It’s how the election system works - you will get enough early vote to tell you most seats, which they should be able to cover in their election special at 7pm, but unless it’s a landslide statewide, we will be waiting well into the week after to know what the actual outcome is once there’s enough preferences counted to know the final seat in each division.
I certainly wish Six well with their coverage, but there just isn’t going to be anything of substance to talk about - all there is can be adequately covered by Seven in news updates and the next night’s 6pm bulletin.
Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere and I missed it but I’ve just seen that the entire ABC TV schedule since just after the National Press Club address has been different for Tasmania. I’d assume they’ve gotten rid of most of the “ads” rather than cutting programs short but they’ve needed to clear 11 minutes of the schedule to run the Labor party’s final pitch and I’d assume there will be similar coming up… which I haven’t bothered checking.
Great site that webepg.xyz for checking all this out though! Sydney vs Launceston schedule here.
Sky News will have live coverage of the Tasmanian Election this Saturday from 6pm, hosted by Kieran Gilbert, and will also feature Political Editor Andrew Clennell, Chief Election Analyst Tom Connell, AM Agenda host Laura Jayes, Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care and former Tasmanian Labor Leader Rebecca White, Tasmania Liberal Senator and Shadow Environment Minister Jonathon Duniam, and Political Commentator and former Labor Cabinet Minister in the Hawke-Keating Governments, Graham Richardson.
Not 100% sure on that, Hare-Clarke throws up a multitude of combinations of potential members…
Also were the only state to still have a tally room, not just online results…that provides colour and movement.
It won’t however be fully sorted on the night, so its potentially a-lot of filler not much killer…
That broadcast ran for exactly 10 minutes.
The Tasmanian Liberals would’ve ran their final pitch last night, there’s no further final pitches scheduled for tonight.
There won’t be anymore anyway because of the usual usual (as always)…
A special edition of AM, hosted by Andy Park, will be broadcast on ABC Radio across Tasmania this Sunday at 8am.
I can personally say they wouldn’t lol
From experience I think there’s still plenty to talk about for a few hours and we were able to do that only a year ago at the last Tas election
Besides we do live coverage for a lot of elections, even local, so I reckon we’ve figured out pretty well how to fill time lmao
You’re really the only news source that does this, and I appreciate you and your team for doing that. You’re literally doing God’s work when it comes to filling a void that most of the media tends to leave behind.
Well done as always @Leo_Puglisi6 and Co at 6 News!
Nothing against @Leo_Puglisi6 and his team, who I’m sure will do a fantastic job as always with the resources they have, however I’m fairly sure last time I checked the ABC will also be doing freely available rolling coverage on election night as they’ve done for decades.
