Good to see Jessica is back hosting, this time with Speers.
Wonder if Ellen Fanning will play a role, since she is apparently meant to be doing stuff for local radio during the campaign.
Does it really need to be on the news channel too?
Do the rest of the country care?
Surely the election nerds are savvy enough to go to the QLD stream on iview if they wanted to watch.
What else would rate for a news network?
Also, they have to compete with Sky.

News relevant to the country not just one state…
Plus what else would they show apart from the standard TOTH bulletins - repeats of Four Corners and other factual.
Going by that logic should Sky News, a national news channel, also not cover the election.
It is relevant to the nation - the election is occurring within 6 months of a potential federal election - a heavy LNP state vote could mean a stronger LNP vote at the federal election in QLD, since voters there traditionally vote more conservatively at federal elections. Plus there is some cross-over in key issues, including cost of living. And there is also the ongoing debacle about the Olympics, which federal taxpayers will be helping foot the bill for.

Sky doesn’t have local outlets. They don’t have a choice.
News? On a news channel?! What trickery is this?
Joking aside, the election is probably more relevant nationally than you might think, especially with federal elections coming up. I would imagine the timing of said election will depend quite heavily on how well (or badly!) Labor do in QLD.

Exactly - the outcome of the night will dominate the next day or two in federal politics- of course the ABC News Channel will be airing it.
This forum continues to be out of touch with the real world.
Do you really think Paul from Victoria is going to sit there all night watching election coverage from QLD.
Sure, the result is somewhat important and people will find out the end result via the news the next day or online etc but those outside of QLD will not have interest sitting there for 4 hours watching something that ultimately won’t affect their day to day lives.
David, I don’t know why you’re getting so fired up about this. It’s news. Of course it’s going to be on the news channel. I’m sure Paul from Victoria can cope for one night.

Who’s getting fired up?
We’re having a conversation are we not?
Plus not many people watch the NC on a Saturday Night anyway, judging by the amount of repeats they show - I don’t think many people would miss the weekly encore of Four Corners.

We are having a conversation. I just don’t understand why you’re so… perplexed? Bemused? About ABC showing the Queensland election on the news channel. If it had been on the main channel nationally then I would understand, and I’d agree with you. But I’m sure most people outside QLD who watch the news channel regularly will understand, and cope, for one night.

I’m not perplexed or bemused. I understand the situation perfectly well. I just don’t accept the notion that people from other states think oh it’s Saturday night I’m going to sit down and watch election coverage from another state. How utterly boring. That’s my opinion. Nothing more. Nothing less.

There’s a reason that 10, 7 & 9 will have other programs to air then for the other states!
Dog House Australia anyone?
